DeLay NOT Done - Suggests He Might NOT Retire
Jul 7, 9:10 PM (ET)

SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay suggested Friday that he may not be ready for retirement just yet, a day after a federal judge ruled that his name must remain on the November ballot even though he resigned from Congress.

DeLay, who came home to Sugar Land for a previously scheduled event, also criticized U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks' ruling that the former House majority leader's name had to remain on the ballot.

"For this guy to say he can't tell where I'm going to be on Election Day, and that I am forced to be on the ballot, well, they may get exactly what they want," DeLay told supporters to raucous applause. Sparks is a Democrat appointed by Republican former President George Bush.

Later, reporters asked Delay if he now planned to run. He didn't say no.

"We have to wait and see what the 5th Circuit does on appeal," he said.

6. Is this district right wing enough that they might vote for Delay anyway?
if he remains on ballot.

7. This was why I thought the Dems were stupid to challenge this
If DeLay runs, he probably wins. Someone else, we might have a chance to beat. So DeLay agrees to step down and go away, and the Dems try to force him back on the ballot? The Dems wanted a "Magic Wand" win, and it may now backfire. It would serve them right. They should have just let the Republicans play their games and then run against whomever emerged.

I've heard people argue that DeLay has already declared his residency in Maryland and therefore couldn't run. The judge's ruling seems to deny that, since his point was that DeLay could still be a resident on election day, and therefore had no reason to be taken off the ballot.

And those who say "Oh, Delay is an indicted felon, no one would vote for him now" just don't know Sugarland, Texas.

I'd like to be wrong on this. I hope I am. But what bothers me most about Dems in Texas is they keep trying to fool their way into office instead of campaigning their way in. They think they can win by working the system, rather than convincing people they are right. So they keep losing, in increasingly astoundingly ways.

10. Good post, jobycom.
If Delay won, would it still be OK for him to go back to the House if he is found
guilty?

12. I figured he would do this when I heard the SC ruling. Rat Bastard.
The thought of him staying makes me sick. Our only hope is that he ends up in PRISON.

13. The BIG house, not the House of Representatives- that's what he needs
(and the rest of us, too).
