3. Same as a Newsweek Article |
|
Several weeks ago. I really doubt if it's much of a surprise to the working folks.

I read it in the print edition, I think it's been 2 to 3 weeks ago. You are correct at people's reaction to the issue. If your pension is currently seemingly secure you are feelin' okay, if your pension is already gone, it's much too late, if you have no pension you are already screwed. Pensions are stuff in the future for many and rather nebulous things (until you hit your 50's and 60's) then you start doing the numbers.

4. Most IMPORTANT info in the article! |
|
In its latest annual report, GM wrote: "Our extensive pension and (post-employment) obligations to retirees are a competitive disadvantage for us." Early this year, GM announced it was ending pensions for 42,000 workers.
But there's a twist to the auto maker's pension situation: The pension plans for its rank-and-file U.S. workers are overstuffed with cash, containing about $9 billion more than is needed to meet their obligations for years to come.
Another of GM's pension programs, however, saddles the company with a liability of $1.4 billion. These pensions are for its executives.

9. this is a problem at the airlines. |
|
they are wanting the most important people in their company, the pilots, to take cuts in pay and pension benefits, but the execs make millions in both. personally, i want the person flying the plane to be the highest paid person at the airline, after the mechanics.

Our Republican controlled and dominated U.S. Government wants more slack, give-a-ways, and welfare for the Wealthy Elite and Corporate America at the expense of Working Class Americans.
Democratic Politicians: Cut your ties to the Wealthy Elite and Corporate America, raise your tone, and stand up for Working Class Americans in a unified voice.

21. This has become a meme in the last week or so in the MSM. |
|
Lots of TV interviews with airline pilots who have lost up to 60% of their pensions while the execs of the numerous federal bailouts/bankruptcies continue unabated in their greed for their "pension trusts." Now that it is hitting the upper middle class as well, the country is beginning to see a real "Bush base" (as in his infamous quote) being taken to task -- but will the Corpocratublicans do anything about it? Nah. Old people should sell their houses and eat ramen noodles and live in a trailer park in Florida, regardless of what the unions and the corporations promised them for their 30 years.
