Is the US running Death Squads in Iraq to ignite more fighting within Iraq

The news has been passive of the fact that we are arming and conducting the Iraqi Army and police, which in turn are running death squads and a sort of ethinic cleansing. We are in fact supporting the death squads and torture wracking the people in Iraq.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/10/AR2006071000129.html

More than 50 people were killed Sunday when Shiite Muslim militiamen descended on the al-Jihad neighborhood after sunrise, residents said, setting up checkpoints, demanding identification cards and bursting into homes to single out Sunni Arabs to kill. Bodies, some of which appeared to have been tortured, were discarded in the streets, witnesses and Iraqi officials said.

"Some of them were tortured with drills," Rawi said of the bodies. "Some of them were hanged by ropes."

"We've said it several times that there are people who want to create civil war," Wafiq al-Samarrae, an adviser to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, said on al-Jazeera television. "Today, this country is on the edge of civil war, not sectarian strife."

All this reminds me of what happened in El Salvador.

2. Of course.....that's why Negroponte was sent there....
His gig is training death squads.

He got the job done, then he left. Now we are witnessing the fruits of his labor.

throughout the 70s and 80s, to be replaced by fundie missionaries working for their political gains.

None of this happens by coincidence.

BushInc has played this deadly scenario many times in many countries. Did anyone believe they just decided one day to STOP this tactic?

5. They would love to kill off as many of the people of Iraq as they
can. Especially the ones they think might be able to put up some resistance.

6. No, that's not correct. The US is not deliberately trying to start

a civil war. A civil war would be ruinous for US interests. The US needs a stable, quiet Iraq that allows investments by foreign (US) oil companies, and which will allow a draw-down of US troops (something the GOP needs more and more, in terms of domestic politics). These attacks are being conducted by Sunnis, to prevent the Shiites from controlling Iraq; by the Shiites, in retaliation against the Sunnis; and by various parties, to force us out of Iraq.

A civil war would be a catastrophe for the US: it would force us out of Iraq, and it would be a horrendous bloodbath. It could easily spiral out of control into WWIII (as Iran, Syria, Israel, and the Turks get pulled into it). Again, the last thing we want to do is risk starting this kind of conflagration.
