TIMEs Cover: Cowboy Diplomacy is OVER....AKA Failed Approach |
|
Its not working...
even after 5 years, Bush has not had any degree of success to speak of.
Poor Bush, it must be discouraging/depressing....No matter what he sez, what he does, where he goes...its all DARK and GLOOMY.

1. God, Is That Good News! |
|
a Time cover can crystallize an entire mood in the country. Once that happens, it has words and a public space, and it will twice as difficult for Bush to pull any jingoistic shit with Iran.

6. It Reflects *AND* Creates, That's What Media Does Best |
|
If it tries to create something out of nothing, it won't work. But it does more than reflect -- it crystallizes. For thoughts and opinions, silence is death.
And while it's true that Time is only one magazine, it has an iconic status in the magazine industry similar to the NYT among newspapers. There is only one Time Person of the Year.

4 years ago, you had Fox News extolling the virtues of Cowboy Diplomacy, even in the face of Time and other media outlets questioning going it alone. They can't do that anymore as the results are against them.
I believe that any media outlet's attempt to crystalize opinion is going to be driven in large part by whether the opponents of that idea can counter it. In this case, they cannot.
However, I don't believe one magazine article is going to change the ability of the government to enact its foreign policy. Bush did not have the option of going it alone in Iran before this magazine cover and regardless of it.
I guess my main thinking is that I don't believe the claims that "liberal media" can influence opinions in a free marketplace of ideas. The only reason liberal media is successful is because their reasoning is accurate and the people know it.

..."cowboy diplomacy" won't be over until the (suburban) cowboy and his gang are ridden out of town on a rail.
People need to realize that, no matter how disparaged Bush may be, he's still in charge for the next 2 3/4 years, and still has a Republican majority for the foreseeable future. While that remains the case. and especially while he remains convinced that he's "annointed by God" to lead the country through this time of peril, he's going to keep doing what he's been doing all along. It doesn't matter how many pundits decree that, with his drop in popularity, he's going to have to "moderate" his approach. News flash: It. Ain't. Gonna. Happen. The same "experts" also said that, following the closeness of the 2000 election, Bush would have no choice but to adopt a centrist, bipartisan style of "caretaker" leadership. It didn't happen then, and it won't happen now. For Bush, it's "full speed ahead" until 1/20/09...unless we can take control of Congress this November, and apply the breaks to his insanity.

14. Bush insists that history will be kind to him, that it will validate...... |
|
his policies and prove him to be a great pResident. That shows you how much boosh knows about history. History will cut him to ribbons. History has the luxury of time and being able to dig into all of the secrets and nuances of a situation and believe me, boosh has SOOOO many secrets it's going to take Historians decades to suss out the unvarnished truth. In they end they'll come to one conclusion: bosh was THE WORST President, EVER! No one else will come close and barring the actual appearance of an anti-christ or another Hitler he'll remain in that "top" spot forever. He was a mistake from the beginning and it never got any better from there.

it's a whole lot worse than "cowboy diplomacy" ... this is just another effort to isolate Chimpy & Co. and absolve the media of their considerable role in promoting this outlaw administration.
Cowboys are heroes in American mythology. Let's not equate them with neo-Orwellian dictators. Unless you're talking about outlaws of the west.
