How long before Rove tries to paint Liberals as Authoritarians?
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 08:01 AM by FUGW
I am no longer going to use the word Conservative when describing Right wing Resmuglicans, they are all Authoritarians. I used to wonder how anyone could call themselves a Conservative and not be outraged by what these morons in the Bush administration are doing. I now see that they are not Neo-Cons they are pathetic frightened weak minded little Authoritarians who must be stopped at all costs.
Sorry about my rant, I'll get back to the question.
I'm sure Rove is going to try to paint Liberals as the Authoritarians. I don't think he'll say were national Authoritarians thats to hard of a sell. But he probably will say we are International Authoritarians who want the U.N. to rule over us. What do you think?

2. There's already a strain of that happening, with Lieberman & friends
accusing Democrats not supporting him as wanting the party to march in lockstep. Rove doesn't have to do the heavy lifting anymore. Acolytes--and Joe has learned well--have internalized his method of projecting onto the opposition what their party members are guilty of themselves.

3. Count on it
Remember, we can always count on the far right to scream about liberals, accusing liberals of doing anything that the far right is actually doing.

4. It's already being done
I don't know if he will say it that directly, but they've been saying that for a long time. Particularly when you move to guns or healthcare.

20. Well Stalin was more or less a leftie
Hitler wasn't.

I'd agree though, that arguing that his monmania came from his leftism is a deceptive oversimplification.

At any rate at the extremes of all philosophies you find monsters.

6. Every ideology has a strain of that
Every hierarchical system is based on it. If people didn't try and make other people do things, good or bad, we wouldn't have a society. They're all authoritarians to one degree or another in DC. If they weren't, they wouldn't be addicted to getting the vote.

12. Authoritarian or is fascism the more appropiate designation?
The proper word for Republican "conservatives" isn't "authoritarian", it's "fascist", or more completely corpo- fascist or neocon-fascist.

We make a mistake when we over (or under) judge and describe the state that the neocons are trying to make the US into: authoritarian, oligarchy, plutocracy, etc. All of those words are a too cautious approach to a world coming to resenble the one our fathers and grandfathers fought in Europe, the world of militarism, empire, class and racial pride that the elitist Mussolini and his apologist Gentile properly labeled fascism.

It's wise to remember that pre-war Germany as well as Italy was a "democracy". It took but a few months for both the German as well as the Italian model to reform itself into an "elective" dictatorship. World Communism was the terrorist enemy the fascist elite invoked to take over their respective countries, just as Muslim terrorism is the enemy invoked to explain our suspension of Constitutional liberties.

It would be good if we could be governed by 2 principles in our fight against the loss of America as we've come to know it:

one, we should call a spade a spade, and in this case, the spade is fascism, or perhaps electoral fascism, if you can believe that the election part of the equation is still valid.

Two, we should try and recognize that the America of Franklin and Jefferson was radically different than the America of Lincoln, which was radically different from the America of FDR, and so forth. What was constant, in the last analysis, was that all the parties to the changes that America endured believed that they were guided by the American Constitution.

We should accept that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights IS America and has always been America; and we should fight to our last breath to see that the America that is being transformed as I write this, is returned to a country where the principles enshrined in the Constitution define and guide us as a people and a nation.

We should settle for nothing less. Our fathers and grandfathers died to give us this opportunity.

14. I agree with what you are saying but we are talking about labels,
with labels it's all about conjuring emotions. The label fascist has to much baggage to be effective, but Authoritarian seems submissive and weak.

23. NOTHING LESS FOR THESE DEMOCRATIC UNITED STATES!
Thanks for stating so clearly the basic purpose of government.

Labels may sway those who aren't clear about these rights and the provisions for all citizens. The emphasis on the common good and respect for individual rights is so primary.

So we are all different, and we will with freedom always be, as long as we honor our differences and respect the goodness present in all caring beings and their environment.

To sensibly resolve conflict by unbiased research and enforcement of law and common respect.

I am part of the Bill of Rights part of the Democratic Party.

I see very little concern for common good, individual rights and respect of difference in the conquests of the Rovian,Cheny,Rumsfeld,Rice Republic.

I do see much elite deception and abuse. Too bad they ceased power and have corrupted and misused their responsibilities.

And the big media outlets will dutifully repeat the assertion for them ad nauseum, in the form of a question of course, until the label is transferred to the left. At least, that's how it'll go if the past is any indication.

If people are fed up enough, then transferring it over to the left won't work.

22. True liberalism isn't authoritarian, it's individualist...
as it grew out of the Enlightenment recognition of individual choice and self-determination, as opposed to having authority figures making your life choices for you.

There are authoritarians who happen to be liberals, though, just like there are authoritarians who happen to be conservatives. I have met a couple of people on this board who, if they had their way, would tell me what I can read on the Internet, what Xbox games I'm allowed to play with my kids, would outlaw Sudafed, would ban public smoking, would confiscate half the guns in our gun safe, ad nauseaum. That's authoritarian, whether the person doing it is liberal or conservative, IMHO.
