Think Israel is trying to provoke Iran?
I think Israel might be acting so aggressively against Hamas and Hizbollah is to provoke Iran to do something stupid. Israel would love nothing more than an excuse to wipe out Iran's nuclear facilities. Israel seems to be following the neocon road to peace, which of course is the same road that leads to hell.

3. It's not going to take much provocation because...............
.....the leaders of Iran has already clearly stated they want nothing more than a reason to wipe Israel off the map. I know, I know, very few people at DU like hearing that Israel is not the cause of every last problem in the Middle East. Israel isn't perfect by any means but all people (Jew and Arab) in the Middle East are just plain crazy imho.:spank:

5. Iran has NOT clearly stated that they want to wipe Israel off the map...

From Juan Cole's website:

<snip>
In fact, Iranian Jewish expatriates themselves have come out against a bombing campaign by the US or Israel against Iran. There are still tens of thousands of Jews in Iran, and expatriate Iranian Jews most often identify as Iranians and express Iranian patriotism. I was in Los Angeles when tens of thousands of Iranians immigrated, fleeing the Khomeini regime. I still remember Jewish Iranian families who suffered a year or two in what they thought of as the sterile social atmosphere of LA, and who shrugged and moved right back to Iran, where they said they felt more comfortable.

This affair is similar to the attribution to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the statement that "Israel must be wiped off the map." No such idiom exists in Persian, and Ahmadinejad actually just quoted an old speech of Khomeini in which he said "The occupation regime over Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time." Of course Ahamdinejad does wish Israel would disappear, but he is not commander of the armed forces and could not attack it even if he wanted to, which he denies.
</snip>

Ahmadinejad was quoting an old Khomeini speech in which he said that the occupation of Palestinian lands should be wiped out, not Israel itself.

....did a google and got among others the following;

IRAN SAYS IT WANTS TO DESTROY ISRAEL. WHY IS EVERYONE SHOCKED?
http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=w051031&s=karshmiller103105

Blair 'revolted' by 'destroy Israel' call of Iranian president
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,251-1845402,00.html

World Condemns Iran's 'Destroy Israel' Remark
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/10/26/204226.shtml

on edit: Indeed Iran backed away from these comments later but only after world condemnation. The point I made, however, was not that Iran backed away from the comments later but that Iran had made the destroy Israel comments.

9. Of course they are..........
....."RW sources" I just countered the issue of Iran making comments to the affect that they wanted to destroy Iran. So of course no sources will be acceptable enough.:rofl:
