Clark on "coffin commercial"
Frustrating that that CNN poll is not working, but here is one four-star general's opinion:

General Clark...welcome! (27+ / 0-)
I would like to ask you a question. Do you not think it hypocritical for Republicans or anyone to criticize the DCCC's use of a picture of flag draped coffins in a campaign video, given the fact that the Republicans have expliciting politicized the war and use it to win elections?

Coffins (89+ / 0-)
Yes, it is hypocritical. It was the Republican's bad policies, and Bush's misguided leadership that created the circumstances in which our soldiers and Marines are dying. These pictures are not disrespectful - at least, not of the men and women who sacrificed. They simply remind the viewers of the cost of Bush's mistaken policies. And hopefully, they help voters understand that the Administration which bungled all this should be held accountable!

2. Wes Clark got it right.

It is shamefully hypocritical of the Repubs to
claim that ad is " disrespectful" or "tasteless".

Showing the caskets of our soldiers who paid with their lives,
and a clip of a soldier, head bowed before a tribute to a fallen comrade
is not disrespectful.

We are honoring them. And we are showing the truth of what this war is
and has done to us.

....their re-election campaigns!!

Actually I'm glad the democrats did that.....it gives people a much clearer idea of what a Bush administration has cost all of us.

4. General Clark is absolutely correct in what he says.
The Hyprocricans love to play the 9/11 card and the "war on terra" card when it suits their purpose. But whoa now, let the other side use an image to drive home the truth, and they trip all over each other getting to the mike to express their "outrage."

5. it's ALL about the media
very simple

'we' are NOT allowed to get the message out:

dems are either "too soft" to play the game, or too outRAGEous when they dare try to play the game as the fascists do

caught between that Scylla and Charybdis, what do they do?

they PULL the AD!

8. Really makes me angry that they pulled the ad.
When, when, WHEN are we going to get anyone who will not back down to the right wing hacks?

P.S. I love the jelly fish picture.

6. last night Olbermann made an interesting comment about this...
He said the audience for that commercial would have been much smaller if the Republicans had not brought attention to it.

So this time their outrage really had a positive effect by bringing national exposure to that commercial!!

Who cares if their outraged? They just gave our side a lot of exposure......

7. he's got the moral authority to defend the use of the pictures
I hope somebody on Fox asks him this question during his next appearance (unlikely, but it'd be great).

10. Right. I received smoking WTC B*sh-propaganda brochures in 2004
in my mail box... I grafittied them and wrote "Return to Sender" on them, and put them back in my mailbox.

13. SHOULD be our next President.....considering the news for the past
6 years!

I mean Humpty Dumpty has really screwed things up bad!

The U.S. can't even "pretend" to be an honest Broker in the Middle East....meaning, we no longer have any control whatsoever!

The Shit is all over the place!

20. Perhaps Gen Clark should give serious
thought to running. We need someone with military experience leading the country. IIRC Eisenhower's comment of "God help us if we ever get a commander in chief who knows nothing about the military" has now happened.

Compare Clark's return to Bosnia with a Bush visit anywhere. Clark was hailed and cheered. Bush is protested and ridiculed.

I served under Gen Clark and would definitely vote for him.

18. If they focus on the coffins, they distract from the Katrina victims.
Where's the outrage at that moral atrocity by the GOP?

I think the photo of the coffins is something the RNC all sat down at the table and agreed they would make an issue of, so as to neglect all the other issues which the ad portrays. Desperate bunch of f*ckers, aren't they?

19. The DCCC called me Thursday asking for a donation! I said No!
At the time it was before they pulled the ad. This ad by the way is great and I'd actually reconsider donating if they KEPT it!

I said no to the telemarketer because I told her that while I agreed with all she said in her script (taking back this country and turning it around from what the GOP and Bush have done) I said that I'm not giving to the DCCC right now because of a lot of the decisions that they have made related to who they support (or not) and where they are spending their money. I told them that I'll choose where to send that money. I said that they should take Emily's List's practices of sending out info on candidates running and allowing the people to choose where they want their money going. The woman got very defensive. I said "hey, look at the public records of my public donations to candidates - I give generously". But I said I'm giving directly, not through them until I see some changes. Then I see this ad, think its actually great, and then I hear its being pulled because some GOP'ers whine?

This is why they won't get money from me. They just don't get it.
