Why do Democrats persist in calling pro-war crowd misguided idealists?
It is frustrating to see the war argued in the make believe terms set up by the Bushies: we are trying to spread democracy to the benighted Arab world. "Do you believe they are ready for democracy? Maybe the war is failing because they aren't ready for democracy..."

The Bushies had no such intention. They took a dictator in waiting in tow, Chalabi, and somehow miraculously realized if they installed that piece of shit his life expectancy would be about 20 minutes. When Gen. Garner said he wanted elections 90 days after the invasion, he was fired. Elections didn't get on the agenda again until the Iraqis took to the streets. They were forced to vote on a constitution most didn't see ahead of time. After the elections, when they picked a prime minister, Bush didn't like the choice and said pick someone else.

The whole time the Bushies were enforcing a radical privatization and theft scam, including the oil, that the Iraqis had no say over. That is a war crime by any definition.

So long as Democrats argue this on the turf of GOP lies, they will not win the argument, and likely don't want to. If they described the goals of the war and who is profiting and will profit from it in the long term accurately, the war would already be over, and Bush and Cheney would already be in exile in Saudi.

What the fuck is their problem that they can't tell the truth and talk to people like adults? Oil people got in office, then used our military to steal oil so their friends could set the price, profit from pumping it, and be in a good position to steal more.

Not for us. Not for oil for our economy. Just for the oil companies.
