Police in Jackson Gone Wild! (Christian Newswire)
Police in Jackson Gone Wild
Contact: Pat McEwen, 321-431-3962, www.operationsaveamerica.org

JACKSON, Ms, July 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- The police in Jackson Mississippi have gone wild! On Sunday morning they watched Anti Racist Action masked anarchists smash the windshield of a Christian’s car and DID NOTHING!! Today, Monday morning, the police are detaining & citing ANYONE carrying a Christian sign, moms, dads, grandmothers, grandfathers and even little boys and girls.

"When was the constitution of the United States rescinded? When were the rights of peaceful citizens removed? Where is the right to freely express your opinion on the public sidewalk?" -- Rev. Flip Benham, Director, Operation Save America

Steve Crampton, lead attorney for American Family Association, has filed a restraining order against the city to compel the police “storm troopers” to take their hands of peaceful Christians.

They fail to mention in this article that the people were detained and cited for demonstrating without a permit. It had nothing to do with them being Christian. From the Operation Save America Website: Monday morning as Christians began to hold signs and share the gospel of Christ at the overpass police descended in force. Jackson police are claiming a permit from the city is required in order to exercise First Amendment rights of free speech and assembly on public sidewalks.

Remember when Cindy Sheehan got arrested for the same thing? It works both ways people!

1. These nutballs think God is up there on that overpass with them.
Anytime you mix religion and civil disobedience you get a bunch of crazies who think they're above MANMADE law.

4. I wouldn't go that far.
I would certainly call many of the civil rights marches of the 1960s a mix of "religion and civil disobedience." I think what you mean to say is a mix of "religious fundamentalism and civil disobedience."

10. Oh but they are
Gawd's law is above that, and they only care about Gawd's law--until they can use manmade law to keep women and gays in their place. :eyes:

6. You need a permit?
You need a permit to demonstrate in the US? Isn't that a basic human right?

9. The permit is more for planning crowd control.
I don't think you need a permit if there's only about 10 or so of your group - or if you want to stand on the street corner by yourself with a sign.

However, if you're expecting a sizable crowd, any given city wants to know so they can provide police protection so that you and your friends aren't run down by motorists talking on cell phones and/or by groups opposing you. It's crowd control.

Sometimes, unfortunately, it gets out of hand on the side of the police, but, it looks as though, here, the police were just doing their jobs.

16. They can-if they have the proper permit
It may be a pain in the backside for the demonstrating group, but it makes it safer for all concerned.
