He personally sent hand written letters to every family in his district that had lost a child. I can't forget what he did, but I can forgive him a mistake.

You have to be a subscriber to get the full article online, but right now, I'm snipping from the magazine on my lap:
"...With hindsight, it's not one of his proudest moments. "I wish it had never happened" he says now..."

the only person who has used Bush's words against him about victory in Iraq (how you need an exit strategy). With the whole Murtha/Hunter debate that happened in the House he was on the side with Murtha.

"It Can"t Happen Here" written in 1935.
"Remember when we called sauerkraut 'liberty cabbage' and somebody actually proposed calling German Measles 'Liberty Measles'?....
Too bad these Republican idiots didn't check their source. More...
"Why, where in all history has there been a people so ripe for a dictatorship as ours!"
"Remember when the hick legislators in certain states, in obedience to William Jennings Bryan, who learned his biology from his pious old grandma, set up shop as scientific experts and made the whole world laugh itself sick by forbidding the teaching of evolution?...
Read the book if you haven't had the chance, it's pretty amazing. These quotes are all on the same page in my copy.

But he was way ahead of me.
Please do a search for "Zappa, Crossfire" on google and watch his prescient comments if you haven't already seen the show.

but I believe the current issue of Mother Jones has a front page story on the guy who started freedom fries -- and he's a republican from NC who is now totally opposed to the Iraq war. I forget his name at the moment, the magazine is at my office.
