2005: Blacks in N.O 2006: Arab-Americans in Lebanon |
|
Last year the Bush administration abandoned the blacks of New Orleans to the tender mercies of Katrina. This year the follow-up is the snail's pace getting Arab-Americans evacuated from Lebanon. I guess that's OK because neither group consists of "real" Americans! (sarcasm)

2. Let's not start on the fucking hotels, OK? Those were NOT "rich people." |
|
They were business travelers and vacationers. And they got NO special treatment from the Government.
They got out because the companies that ran the hotels got them out.

5. Sorry. It's just that it got beaten to death here, and ridiculously so. |
|
There were people claiming that anyone who ever stayed in a hotel was rich, and therefore deserved to stay until everyone else got out.
Really. It was revolting.

4. The problem wasn't that hotels were evacuated |
|
The problem was that no provision was made to evacuate people who couldn't drive out of the area or who didn't have a place to go to. I'm not certain whether the problem in New Orleans was that the people were poor or whether it was they were black. I'm very suspicious that the problem in Beirut is that the people involved appear to be mostly immigrants with accents, dark skin and brown eyes who got caught by the fighting while visiting relatives. Obviously, "real" Americans summer in Maine, not Lebanon!.
