Oklahoma woman whose son died in Iraq wants his name off anti-war T-shirts
http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=5182836&nav=9qrx

OKLAHOMA CITY Her Marine son died while serving in Iraq. Now, an Oklahoma woman is fighting to keep his name off anti-war T-shirts.

Judy Vincent learned last year that the name of her son, Corporal Scott Vincent, is among about 17-hundred included on a T-shirt being sold by an Arizona man over the Internet. The front of the shirt reads "Bush Lied" and the back reads "They Died."

2. Then he should take it off...
I disagree with her, but it was her son, and we should respect her wishes.

3. When this War Mom says that the war should continue
then she is effectively saying that there should be more Americans getting killed in Iraq. That may not be what she means, but that is the policy consequence of what she wants. I hope this guy sticks to his guns and politely declines this woman's demands.

Maybe if these people would treat Cindy Sheehan with a little more respect, I would be more sympathetic.

9. Bushspeak dictates that many more die...
so that her son's death was not in vain. If she is pro war, then
that is what she believes.

I'm sorry her son died, and in the end it will have been in vain,
but for reasons she will never admit.

Then she can blame the "Liberal Bush haters".

4. well too bad
she doesn't have any legal standing to do this

her son's name is a matter of public record

she needs to get a better lawyer who will tell her that this game of lawsuit lottery is a waste of time

8. Take it off if that's what she wants
She's neck deep in De Nile and maybe this is what she needs to get by, maybe she has another kid she wants to sacrifice.

on the war no matter how much, emotionally, I think I have the need to. Anybody else that chooses to, though, I don't judge.

11. Then some right wing nut get$ another mom to $quawk, then another.
Where does it end?

I'm sorry for the mom's loss, but she can just ignore the enterprise altogether. It's not like there's a big truck in her town with her son's name painted on it.

13. Some disgusting responses
I have no idea whether this woman supports the war or not. To me, it doesn't matter (and the article didn't say anything one way or the other). This is a parent who wants her dead son's name off a t-shirt. Agree or disagree, but don't be so damned callous. I really fail to see how anyone could claim to care about any other person with some of these responses.

People are ends in themselves, not means to those ends.

P.S. I'm not accusing the OP.

16. My question about copyright was simply directed to the legality
of the shirt and the mother's claim. If the guy who makes the shirts voluntarily removes the name from the next batch, it would be a nice gesture. But I don't see any legal basis that would require him to do so.

14. Take it off.
AND...her son did not die in vain. He was serving to the best of his ability. But George Bush contributed to his murder.

The anti-war message can still exist without upsetting the families of the fallen.
