AP: Insurgents are preparing "an all out assault" on Baghdad
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 08:59 PM by Quixote1818
Just read this in the local newspaper. The article also said that attacks soared by 40% in Baghdad this past week. Attacks are now averaging 34 a day when they had been at 24 a day between June 14 and July 13th.

1. If this is true, and the military knows about it
They better be doing something about it

2. They know
The OP title was a direct quote from an American general. The article didn't say what they were going to do about it though.

... More troops to be deployed to Baghdad, general says

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – The top U.S. commander for the Middle East said Friday that the escalating sectarian violence in Baghdad had become a greater worry than the insurgency and that plans were being drawn up to move additional forces to the Iraqi capital.

3. WRONG! Typical librul propaganda!
It's actually a massive candy assault. The Iraqi people are going to bombard us with shells filled with Hershey's kisses and flowers. Why doesn't the media ever report on all this good news? :P

7. Remember Dunkerque, 1940?
This may just be a repeat of that for US troops. Turkey and Iran may just have to invade to stop full blown chaos.

11. I am seeing a circling maneuver around Baghdad with a kinetic
nucleus rapidly shrinking and enveloping the Green Zone.

I think that it will happen within the next eight weeks, before the end of hot weather.

It will be this "war's" Tet68.

They could do it with less than 10,000 men.

We would be forced to level Baghdad, an absolute disaster.

Hope I am wrong.

14. There will be Hell to pay...
I just know it.

We have withdrawn into the safe, insulated Green Zone.
Classic, catastrophic mistake.
How can our commanders be so foolish?

We fortified the GZ and made it our sole firecamp in Baghdad because we thought this would be finished right away.
No options.

Fools

16. I believe it was yesterday that two explosions went off in the Green Zone
If I am not mistaken, that is the first time thats happened. I know they have launched missiles into the green zone but that was the first time I have heard of someone getting into the GZ with a bomb in hand.

17. Classic American/Euro/Sino mistake
Circle the wagons, define the defensive perimeter.

They taught us to always avoid that pitfall, maintain a fluid defense. But what did we know? We were just Special Forces and the guys calling the shots had been schooled at Annapolis.

That's why we lost in Vietnam and that is why this shit is on the verge of implosion.

25. Actually it has been happening for awhile...it's just now being
reported...

When Kathy Griffen the comedian went over last Nov/Dec 05 soldier was walking to the mess hall with his fiancee...a morter came in and killed her and he ended up in the field hospital....

We are starting to hear the stories because the * cabal can't keep it hidden any longer..

If there is anything similar to the Tet offensive ...this administration is done....

28. I could go into all kinds of detail. But suffice to say, we should
know better.

While we were being schooled at Coronado (SEAL School) on this very issue, evidently the Fish at Annapolis never heard a word.

37 years later and the curriculum evidently has not changed.

29. Detail would be good, actually.
I see this as a Dien Nien Phu because of the supply lines, and the lack of evacuation routes to use in a retreat. The Green Zone is a parcel of land bordered by the river on two sides and by urban baghdad on the other two. The river is not fordable at that spot, and there is not sufficient riverine transport to evacuate across it. There is one main road out. If cut off at the choke point, only destroying the enemy or the use of vertical resupply and evacuation is possible, but the enemy already knows how to take out helicopters. The main airport is fairly distant, and is itself vulnerable.

Can you imagine if they ended up freeing Saddam and then he was back in charge? Crazier things have happened.

remember when SH said he would be freed by the Admin?

Remember all of that other weird shit?

How could we achieve our goal of destroying Iraq ( and that WAS the goal) and somehow lead the ME down some perverted road?

Restore Saddam?

Thinking about it brings me vertigo.

If someone had come up with a movie with this story line and all the perverted sub plots, people would have said "Na, that could never happen". Well, it's happening and it gets more weird evey day! Who knows what the end of this bizarre movie will be?

It doesn't sound safe at all. More like a green powder cake about to turn into a red powder cake. Perhaps the battle of Little Big Horn all over again? Very scary and unfortunate!

If we stay there long enough, they'll welcome us as liberators and throw flowers. It'll happen...someday. (I'm guessing it'll be the day we leave Iraq)
