Those who claim they "got" it didn't.

1. But abortions aren't caused by gay sex!
Aaah! I'm so confused!

2. Excuse me. What do you mean if homosexuality could be "cured?"
Just so you know, that's very, very insulting.

I don't need to be cured of anything.

5. Exactly!
What if they found out heterosexuality wasn't actually "normal" and could be cured? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Good come back, cboy!

Buffy got it below, where I explained it better, I guess. Anyway, a post that needs that much explanation just doesn't work.

16. Even in parody context, using the word "cure" is right wingnut-speak and I
don't like having to read it in my/our house.

When there is a segment of society that believes I choose to be gay or that there's something wrong with me, maybe you can understand why I'm overly sensitive about any suggestion that gay and lesbian people need to be cured.

I say this having completely understood your point.

Thanks.

18. There was no suggestion in the post or thread title
that anyone needed to be cured. If you read that, you read it wrong, and didn't completely understand my point.

Not that they won't anyway. They'll find a way. Just a matter of time.

14. You got it, fc.
They'd stop worrying about stopping women from aborting fetuses with Down's syndrome, and focus their energy on pro-actively aborting fetuses with the "gay gene."

Either way -- aborting us or shoving us into gas chambers -- it's just a matter of time.

4. That'd be an interesting paradox
I know it's a hypothetical question, and probably not scientifically possible. But the fundies would probably take it as a "sign from God" and start propping up Stem Cell research like never before.

17. Oh no shit
I can't believe I have to explain this...

The post was an ironic attempt to create a paradox pitting two bigotries of the right wing against each other. No fucking shit homosexuality is not a disease, nor is stem cell research particularly disturbing to any reasonable person. The word "cured" was used because that's the word fundies use. The irony was that the right wing would have to decide between two bigotries that they hold dear. This wasn't a particularly complex or original use of irony, even, considering the post just below it on the LATEST page uses the same type of irony, and in fact was what inspired this post.

23. Ok
It wasn't clear in the original. Maybe if cure had been in quotation marks it would have been more obvious that it was a parody. :-)

25. I deleted it. Thanks for understanding what I meant.
I put "cure" in quotes at first, but changed it because that's not the way a fundie would have said it so it destroyed the irony of the first part. Maybe I should have put "they" in quotes? I don't know, it would have worked in the Lounge where I'm better known, I guess.

jobycom, Right away my first thought was they would do something like the war on Christmas. I thought it was very funny ironic parody. With all the horror of war I have been frustrated with, I didn't want to think of what the bigots, would want to do. I recommended it for greatest page. "Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart",Anne Frank.
