I just donated to "Save the Internet."
It's an organization to rally support for "Net Neutrality."

"Net Neutrality" means stopping companies such as AT&T from discriminating against websites. Supporters of "Net Neutrality" include John Kerry and John Edwards.

AT&T isn't currently allowed to discriminate against websites, but that prohibition expires next month. AT&T may slow down websites which refuse to pay it a new fee, or which AT&T regards as competition to its own services.

1. NON supporters are pretty much Repukes, such as my two Senaturds
from Ohio. George Voinovich and Mike DeWine; two milquetoast, head-firmly-buried-in-the-BFEEs-ass toadies who are hellbent on keeping the truth suppressed and keeping their handlers firmly in control of ALL our destinies.

I've signed more than one petition for this and will donate as well. In all logic, this shouldn't have a prayer of passing. Are corporations THAT stupid they wouldn't see a mountain-plunging drop in subscriptions? I for one will not pay for a high-speed CONTROLLED internet. Kind of defeats the purpose.

2. AT&T won't announce..
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 11:41 AM by Eric J in MN
..."We've decided to make the following websites faster and the following websites slower."

The public will be in the dark.

If a website is running more slowly, it will seem to be a problem with the website. We won't know that AT&T is intentionally slowing it down.

Also, not a single national ISP has announced that it will maintain the principle of Net Neutrality regardless of legal requirements. If there were, I'd switch to that ISP immediately.

3. Another way to help:
Check out where you Senators stand, and call their offices on Monday:

5. John Kerry supporting "Net Neutrality"
http://www.savetheinternet.com/blog/2006/06/30/stopping-the-big-giveaway-by-john-kerry/

The Commerce Committee voted on net neutrality and it failed on an 11-11 tie. This vote was a gift to cable and telephone companies, and a slap in the face of every Internet user and consumer.

It will not stand.

I voted against this lousy bill for two reasons: because net neutrality and internet build-out are crucial to building a more modern and fair Information Society, and both were pushed aside by the Republicans.
