Veterans without legs learn to ski
Kirk Bowers visits Walter Reed and says that the only way to get people using their limbs over the trauma is to have them do something physical.

Bowers lost a limb in Viet Nam.

The activity is great for the young veterans and the effort to rehabilitate them is commendable.

One soldier, both limbs missing, had American flag tape covering his protheses. Bowers arranged a water skiing trip in NYC where 50 vets shut down rush hour traffic as they were escorted on fire trucks to their destination. How ironic--vets riding on fire trucks in NYC. Remind you of anything?

I think it's commendable that these people have given their limbs--I can't say "for their country" though. I also cannot help but see resemblances between flag wrapped prostheses on young american men and other young men from other countries who are also willing to give life and limb for their causes. How are we different?

1. "See folks? Getting your arms and legs blown off is NO BIG DEAL!"

That's the message they're trying to put out. New legs can be just as good as your old ones! Join the Army and get BIONIC!

I'm thrilled that prosthetics have come this far. I'm outraged that they had to.

2. I'm surprised these stories are mentioned at all.
If United Staters don't see the death & destruction visited upon our servicemembers then it doesn't happen!

Of course, photos of Soldiers walk again thanks to clever substitutes have been around since the US Civil War. It makes the viewer focus on the good and tricks out the brain to think, "Oh isn't that something."

Instead of having the viewer weep over the soldiers mangled body.

Remember America think Happy thoughts about our Glorious Leader, thought criminals will be punished.
