where can I donate towards Emb. Stem-Cell research? |
|
OK, Bush vetoed embryonic stem cell research funding...
time for us to step up and do it ourselves.
Does anyone know where I can donate money so that we can get the ball rolling.
And if not, is there anyone who can start such an organization up? (I don't know the first thing about Non-profit orgs, not even enough to know whether or not NPO is the best way to go.)

I don't know about donating but here is a good public company. I have a bit of my investment money allocated for 'ethical investments' of which Geron (GERN) is a large part. http://www.geron.com/

There are lots of places. Harvard university has a program and University of California at San Francisco. Many of the major drug companies are also doing research.
I have MS and while I am not enthused with ESCR, I have high hopes for umbilical cord research. There are many people I know with MS who are already reciving UCSC therapy with positive results.
Look into it, I think you may be surprised!

I'm not sold that ESCR will cure anything on its own, but I think it could be a catalyst/synergystic tool for other cures and treatments. (eg, A common thing I've heard a lot about is that it will treat Alzheimers because it will grow brain cells... it doesn't quite make sense to regrow brain cells without solving the cause of the deterioration first, but i do see some potential in it helping after the disease itself has been cured.)
^^And for the Geron link, thanks, that's even better. I can contribute to the full potential of science and make a few bucks in the process... a win-win situation. Methinks I need to do some research. I've been looking to start investing my money, but I don't want to just buy stock in companies for the sake of making money.
In general, I think I'll look more into both of these subjects. Thanks for the responses.
