This was just sent on to me from a "fundie" - WOW
The lady who wrote this letter is Pam Foster of Pamela Foster and Associates in Atlanta. She's been in business since 1980 doing interior design and home planning. She recently wrote this letter to a family member serving in Iraq.

Please read it!

WHAT'S ALL THE FUSS?
"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001? Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they? And I'm supposed to care that a cop y of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet? Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia.

I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling, slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college hazing incident, rest assured that I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank that I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," because his handlers hand ..had touched a Bible......you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts that I don't care.

If you agree with this view point, pass this on to all your e-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior! If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button.

Should you choose not to, then don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great country.

In addition to the above which I totally agree with I would sure like to know where the illegal immigrants get off telling our country what our immigration laws should be and how they should be administered. If they don't like the laws of this country why don't they stay in their own country and then if they have to have a revolution in their county to change things and their citizens will be killed in the action, then so be it, we had to do it and we did and I believe it was called the Civil War. Don't come here and try to change us.
AMEN TO THAT!

(usual spelling edit!)

Whether or not this letter passes or fails the Snopes test is beside the point.

The GOP neocon war machine is sending people these talking points cleverly disguised as ordinary letters by typical Americans. They are anything but, of course. They're really part of a very slick propaganda campaign.

Forewarned is forearmed and I thank you for posting as much as I thank the people who posted the Snopes alert!

then s/he should indeed have fact checked, but you're faulting a layperson for passing along an email received??
Ridiculous.

The important point is, whether the original is a hoax or not, it certainly and surely is believed by a great many 'Kompassionate Konservative Khristians'.
While the legitmacy of authorship may be in question, that in itself is merely a distraction -- it's asserted sentiments are wholly endorsed by many of these people.

43. Obviously these sentiments are shared by many.
And so there is a certain "truthiness" to the email, I guess. :eyes:

I used to pass along hoaxes without checking them first, but ever since I found out how easy it is to debunk them before hitting the Send button, I've taken that tiny extra bit of time to do so.

I'm not a professional journalist, and every time I receive an email like this the first thing I do is to enter a phrase from it + the word "hoax" in Google and see what I get. Quite often I find there's an entry on snopes.com, or any of several other hoax-busting sites. For example, the time some morAn at work sent me the one about "General Reinwald" and his snappy comeback to the NPR reporter, I was able to refute it in less than 30 seconds.

Most folks, when they learn about these tools for puncturing hoaxes, are happy to use them. What is "ridiculous" about that?

10. Doug Patton
it is actually the work of Doug Patton, a freelance columnist and political speechwriter. The e-mail-circulated version leaves off his two opening paragraphs and adds a closing "I don't give a sheet either about those sheet heads!" statement that wasn't in his original, but it is otherwise a faithful copy of his article, which was first published on the gopusa.com web site on 6 June 2005 under the title "Ask Me if I Care About 'Mishandling' of Koran" and which has since been reproduced on a number of other web sites.

30. Send back the Snopes link and a calm, thoughtful commentary
My brother (22 year army career veteran) sent me a couple of those garbage can liners a while back--we had just re-established email contact.

I did a quick lookup on Snopes to grab some factual talking points and sent him the link and a factual synopsis. He gave me back a couple of humma humma half-assed excuses and evidently took me off his send-all list. One of these, once in a while, is o k--like tall urinals, they keep you on your toes. Too many and it reminds me too much that mountains of this crap are floating around out there contaminating the clueless minds of malleable foils. I get depressed and angry.

15. I'm glad this was a phoney.
I'm a genealogist, and one of the lines I'm researching right now is my Foster line. I'd hate to think that someone that might be a cousin actually believed this junk.

I'd just have to share with her the fate of Anne Foster, who was condemned as a witch in Salem MA in 1692. She wasn't hurting anyone, but the frenzy of the mob "took over" and snatched a widow grieving over the murder of her daughter from her home, throwing her into a prison where she was tortured until she "confessed"-but not enough to satisfy the preachers, who wanted her to condemn her remaining daughter as a witch. This Anne refused to do, and as a result was condemned to be hanged. But conditions in the jail were too much for her aged body, and she died before the sentence could be carried out.

Injustice is what comes from frenzied hatred and fear.

47. Ah, then let me spell it out for you
Since you don't seem to have absorbed the lesson, or you are unschooled in the ways of the instigator.

You aren't going to get a grand reception when you come in with a "some rightwinger sent me this, is it true?" or "Some fundie sent me this" without additional comment or debunking.

It really is your duty and responsibility, IMO, to filter crap of this nature before you inflict it upon us. Had you prefaced your remarks with something along the lines of "I got this email, which I checked out at SNOPES and it is total bullshit, from a fundie acquaintance, and how should I handle him/her?" you might have gotten a better reception.

Now I am not averring that you are trying to cause trouble, but the modus operandi of those who do is to post horseshit while disingenuously batting one's virtual eyes and playing the innocent, then sitting back, cackling, while watching the regulars reply with varying degrees of outrage.

That's why you are gettting the "tell it to the Marines" style comments.

I mean, is that law of the internet now that you have to think of checking with that every time? Are they ever wrong? LOL!

Let's think about whether there aren't plenty of people who believe each part of this. It's not like it doesn't express the opinions of many. The person who sent it to you believed it expressed her opinion. Who cares whether it was originally written as a joke or not?
