It takes 7 seconds for a good post to die here
I really like reading and learning here, but this is driving me crazy.

I try to follow a post, and unless I pay no attention to any other post, I will lose it in 7 seconds.

That's too fast for posts to die in such a great place as DU.

I am not one who can spend all day here. I spend the time I can, and it's driving me crazy.

Every post I read that I want to respond to is gone by the time I hit the post button.

Popularity sometimes sucks.

1. Traffic in GD is high and unfortunately, sometimes only posts
which are controversial seem to make the cut.

2. If you reply to a post...
...it will be in your "My DU" list. You can also bookmark a post you want to follow and it is in your DU bookmarks list.

6. Try a forum other than General Discussion.
That just happens to be the pace here, like it or not. Other forums and groups go slower, but perhaps without the same level of exposure.

9. Have you tried DU's bookmarking function? I know this board can move
really fast and get overwelming at times. Using the bookmark function really helps me keep track of threads I want to watch or post later too if I haven't posted in it already. B-)

10. If a thread requires
in-depth thinking and a thoughtful, reasoned response in a well-developed conversation, it often sinks like a rock.

Those that stay on the front page are those with an emotional trigger of some kind, encouraging emotional reactions in the form of posts.

11. Well, that is a drag
this place has so much information to share, that it's a shame that more don't get to see it.

I know there's a greatest page, but damn. The truth is I've spent a couple of days reading, and feel like I have to be some hyperactive freak to keep up with anything.

I am a Mosey Walker, you know. I ain't dumb, but I ain't hyper either.

I love your DU handle.
I'm a great fan of moseying, wandering, walking, strolling... I get to pay attention, notice details and nuances, and really enjoy myself.

17. Yes, that too.
Of course, if a discussion stayed on the front page a little longer, there wouldn't be as many dups!

13. Here's a tip.. make one post in all the ones you want to follow
when you are finished and need to log off, go to lobby and hit "mark all".. when you come back, start at the LAST page, and the ones you posted in will have yellow folders..:)

16. Mosey, may I suggest the bookmark function?
I read DU, but usually post when I have a few moments. I don't have a ton of time to read posts that are really in-depth, so what I do is bookmark that post to read when I am finished working and finished with the family.

Then, after I have read it and the responses, I either remove it from my bookmarks or keep it.

Keeps me a little bit saner. GD moves pretty fast.

You are right, this place moves fast. Way fast. I can't hardly believe it.

19. Yeah you have to be fast around here.
 On the flip side though, if you post, you can bring any thread back from oblivion if you want whether anybody likes it or not.

Your post will return the thread to right near the top of the current threads even if it was on page 5 and originally posted three days ago.

20. Make a folder on your desktop
This works best if you don't run your browser full screen:

Make a folder on your desktop (named Politics, DU or whatever)and whenever you're at a thread you want to follow, drag its icon from the address bar into the folder.

I am doing about 5 things at once when I'm online (which is always) and the folder thing is a lifesaver. Or a mentos, I'm not sure.

23. yes, pretty wild. However, once you post it moves back up.
buy a star, send a donation, even a small one like $5 and you can do searches, etc. It is worth it. It is pretty wild here right now, but keep checking in.
