The White House only attacks those on the Left who are a genuine threat. |
|
Adjectives like "reprehensible" and "frivolous" abound when the Left actually manages to penetrate something.
It's a sign of weakness, and instead of backing away, the Dems should *pursue*.
TACTIC: Instead of politely addressing the nature of the frivolity or the reprehebsibility, ignore the adjectives completely and return INSTANTLY and WITHOUT PAUSE to the subject. Don't even address the adjectives. They are red rags, serve no other purpose and cannot, in fact hurt the left.
The reason the Republicans have won in the past is because they have decided that THEY will determine what their image is to be. The Dems appear to rely on other people to tell them what they are. Time to forget that.
Look into yourselves. Think of your lives and the events played out therein as if they happened to a stranger. What would you think of this stranger? Then this is what you are.
If another's view of you is incorrect, correct them.

He was absolutely right, they knew it, now they're playing cover-up.

3. Notwithstanding the lack of true media coverage of Gore's speech, an |

owner of a small NJ recording studio was heard to say that if he loses any money from hereonin, it's Gore's fault because of his speech.
Even the little republicans are scared of an awakened democracy.

2. I find it interesting that when Republicans try to define themselves, |
|
they hijack liberal ideals and try to sell themselves as Progressives. But, in practice, its a very different world.
When they campaign, they paint a picture of their "big-tent" philosophy ("we like all religions, Christians AND Jews!"), a desire to help all Americans find employment ("Maybe you're making $20k less a year, but at least you have a job, right?") and health care ("As long as you can afford it").
And its all a lie.
Their policies are some of the most theocratic, racist, elitist, classist, and most destructive pieces of garbage I have ever seen. But they campaign on progressive platforms, then accuse us of not having any ideas.
The only thing I can't quite wrap my mind around is: Why does the public keep falling for it? How come they never wake up and finally start to wonder why all these great promises and ideals from the GOP's campiagns never come to pass?

6. TRUST. They TRUST them. |
|
They can't stand the fear. They can't stand the idea that they're gullible, or that their leaders are treacherous. So they HAVE to trust them. That's where all this "My country, right or wrong" stuff comes from.
FEAR.
They simply can't stand to believe that they live in such a world. It's too painful for them.

10. I've alwyas thought that |
|
part of the reason some people so fierecly support Bush, still, is because they are so invested in him.
And, therefore, attacks on Bush are as bad as attacks on them, personally.
For example, if the man they support is proven to be a liar, a fraud, a traitor, etc, then what does that say about them?
Its all about image.

It's something of an obstacle.
Some work may have to be done to explain to these people that they aren't responsible for *his actions*...

7. you're right about defensiveness not being a winning tactic |
|
The right doesn't do defensiveness. But then, I suppose all successful criminals are immune to the human feelings of shame or embarrassment. When one of their nastier schemes is uncovered (like Swiftboating Kerry) rather than apologizing, they proceed to pull that same old rabbit out of the hat like it's some magic trick we haven't already seen (Swiftboating Murtha.)
Yet it would be sackcloth-and-ashes time were it ever revealed to liberals that our leaders ever pulled something along those lines. Because the liberal psyche has an innate aversion to hurting or offending people, the Reptilicans figured out how easy it was to push us into defensive mode by pretending to be hurt/offended. This particular rabbit -- the bunny of phony outrage -- has been pulled out of the hat so many times most of it's fur has worn off, but it's still one of their favorite tricks. (Alito's wife being a recent crowd-pleasing example.)
Which is why you're right about staying on the offensive when they start that kind of shit. Instead of stumbling around trying to defend against the accusations ("have the Democrats gone too far this time?") Dem leaders, pundits and spokespersons should just keep hammering away on the real issue. Don't give legitimacy to fake rightwing outrage by defending against it.

9. They will NEVER be able to effectively counter RW corruption... |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 09:59 AM by Village Idiot
as long as the corporate media remains complicit in the corruption. If it gets reported AT ALL, it gets reported badly, factually deficient and full of opinion.
"The reason the Republicans have won in the past is because they have decided that THEY will determine what their image is to be."
...Then they sell this image to the corporate media and later, quote it themselves in Press Conferences as "NEWS" and "FACT."
Wake the fuck up, USAsians.

So how to undermine it?
It's already partially undermined through the Internet, and this is mostly as a passive consequence of general disgust with the MSM expressed by the left in their consumer choices.
Could it be made *active*? With their resources concentrated in the MSM, could underming not the republicans directly but the MSM that supports them be a valid way forward???
