Tom DeLay discusses crisis in ME and his faith in relation to Israel
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 01:24 AM by Emit
On Israel National Radio from July 19th with Rabbi Tovia Singer

Some selected snips--

Singer: "Without question, you are the most outspoken and your support for Israel drives the left and the State Dept. crazy..."

DeLay: "I'm directed by my faith...."

"I'm calling on the administration to show Iran and Syria that we are providing weapons to Israel...That if you're messing with Israel, you're messing with the United States."

"One of Israel's greatest friends in the world..." says Rabbi Tovia Singer.

"We had a great meeting last night with CUFI..." See: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1734756&mesg_id=1736360

"Well, I gotta tell ya, we warned Israeli government...I warned them, that pulling out of the so-called occupied territories... which I don't think are occupied, they belong to Israel. Pulling out is not the answer. Their whole argument to me was that it costs too much to protect Jews living in Gaza..."

"If you possess the land the land is yours...and I just believe, particularly if you look at it from a Biblical perspective...the Lord doesn't want the Jews to give up the land that He gave them..."

He goes on to talk about his trip to Israel in 2003 -- In his message to the Israeli listeners, he refers to destiny, we will push to put our own soldiers shoulder to shoulder with theirs...

Rabbi Tovia Singer goes on to say..."You listen to him and...and you wish the Israeli leaders had this kind of clarity..." "What a pleasing, soft, clear mind...just a joy to have him on...."

1. Here's another fun quote from DeLay
“I’ve been to Masada. I’ve toured Judea and Samaria. I’ve walked the streets of Jerusalem, and I’ve stood on the Golan Heights. . . . And you know what? I didn’t see any occupied territory. What I saw was Israel!” In other words, since God has given the land of Israel to the Jews, there can be no Palestinian state. The Palestinians simply do not have any claim to the land on which they have lived for 2,000 years. And anyone who disagrees will suffer the wrath of God.

8. Scary.
And to think he was, and may still be in many ways, so influential in our government.

There are likely many other politicians in office right now who hold these same beliefs.

2. Why would his support for Israel drive ANYONE crazy
let alone the left and the State Department.

Who actually gives a flying fuck on a stick what this guy has to say anymore.

4. Does it not concern you that many of the movers and shakers
in the Bush cabal who drive our foreign policy have made such decisions based on religiosity?

DeLay is not gone. He's just been re-assigned.

Has the US ever, in your lifetime or that of your ancestors, planted its foot so firmly in the Middle East in the name of its leaders' religion?

This is devastating to our secular society -- to our democratic Republic -- from within and from without.

5. It just struck me as odd the way Singer sounded like he was gloating
over how Delay was making the State Department and the Left crazy, as if he still had that power. Yes he's not gone. Yes, he's a disturbing mirror of how this administration makes decisions.

But he no longer has the limelight. It gives him far too much credit to say that he's driving anyone crazy anymore. They'd like to think he still can. They love the thought of your average Joe Lefty all frothed up and tearing their hair out over the guy. But it's just not true anymore. He's near irrelevant.

7. Well Tommy Boy, lemme tell ya
Now that you have so much free time on your hands, why don't you go on over there to Israel and join their military? Then you can hop on over to Iraq and join our troops there.

I'm sure ole Hot Tub Tom has a lot he can contribute to the ME war effort.
