7. That's what I expected
So, I've been testing the waters for local reaction. Most could care less and a few thought he was already dead.

They better have a backup plan.

Dancing in the streets! Jubilation!

After all, we went into Iraq to depose a ruthless dictator who tortured his people, and we were nice enough to take over that job for him. We went in there to spread freedom and democracy and it's spreading like WILDFIRE! We went in there to rebuild Iraq and all have 24/7 electricity, satellite dishes, and clean drinking water. And security! My God, it's going so well there.

12. Not if he dies before then
AFAIK he's still on his hunger strike.

Maybe that's what he wants - to ruin their surprise...

Who knows with these idiots?

15. Um...that won't be very surprising...
The only way they can juice this is if they can hang him on live TV the day before the election.

20. It's going to be good marketing for the Cons in November
For the voters who haven't kept up, seeing a "Guilty!, sentence is death by stoning" for Saddam will be a rallying cry spun from Galveston to St. Paul. It won't matter that the situation on the ground badly conflicts with 'success'...TV time will be local races, terrorism (BOO!), and winning the WOT ala "We got him."

Common sense "Anti-War" candidates are going to be facing the spin with an onslaught of, "What's Joe Candidate's problem? Saddam's dead, thanks to our brave men and women and the support of good citizens like you. Vote Republican on November 7th." Hope they're ready.
