John Kerry Opposes Re-Nomination of John Bolton for UN Ambassador
“John Bolton’s still the wrong man, for the wrong job, at the wrong time.

“Mr. Bolton has had nearly a year to prove the Senate wrong since his recess appointment. Instead, he has proven that the Senate was right to deny his confirmation last summer. He has helped isolate the United States, made it harder to pursue our interests, and failed to get results on our critical security issues.

“The world is literally blowing up around us, and we need serious people for serious jobs. I don’t care if he is the smartest kid in the class. I don’t care if he is the loudest kid on the block. I care that he doesn’t get results at a time when we need them. He couldn’t get the UN to enforce Resolution 1559 to disarm Hezbollah. He failed to get Russia, China, and even our ally South Korea on board at the Security Council to impose tough sanctions on North Korea. And he has shown no leadership to stop the genocide in Darfur. We need an Ambassador at the United Nations who knows how to build coalitions and can get results.

“We need someone at the UN who can achieve real results, not just talk big; someone who inspires confidence in all of us, not just confidence in neoconservative circles. This is a time that demands statesmanship in this post.”

3. I hope they can still block him
I'm not sure there are 40 votes for a filibuster especially since Voinovich drank the koolaid, but I'd really hate to see this asshole given official Senate backing. He's a complete disaster and Kerry is absolutely right.

This is a lesson many could learn: "I don’t care if he is the smartest kid in the class. I don’t care if he is the loudest kid on the block. I care that he doesn’t get results at a time when we need them."

believe people are jumping to conclusions. "Newsmax" first put the story out on Chuck and Hill. What was the motive of that right wing publication?

12. His questioning of Bolton in the SFRC was brilliant
Kerry was last as the Small Business Committee, that Kerry is ranking member of, was marking up a bill.

Kerry called him on not being able to get the security counsel to back sanctions - Bolton tried a many times arguing that they did, but ultimately Kerry read part of the resolution to him plus his (Bolton) own comments that sanctions were needed. Bolton then kind of tried to say that this was just a first step.

Kerry called him on disarming Hezzbolla and on the fact that they won't talk to Syria.

Bolton, who had handled most of the others' questioning well - looked very pressured and nervous - Kerry looked cool and calm and Preidential.

14. and Kerry called him on not talking to anyone!! and that this admin never
talks to anyone!! and that everywhere congress goes out of the country they are confronted with allies that say we talk to no one and we are isolated!

Kerry was brilliant!

but bolton was being a total dick head asshole and basically very disrespectful to Kerry..

if i could have grabbed inside the tv ..i would have had bolton by the throat..and it would have been dang hard for anyone to get me off the monster!

15. The disrespect actually worked against him not Kerry
Bolton just seemed a snarly low life, while Kerry seemed completely the better person in every way. Kerry simply looked saner, smarter, more honest etc.

23. Did you see this?
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/10962352/iran_the_next_war

~snip~

But the Bush administration's hostility toward Iran is not simply an outgrowth of the current crisis. War with Iran has been in the works for the past five years, shaped in almost complete secrecy by a small group of senior Pentagon officials attached to the Office of Special Plans. The man who created the OSP was Douglas Feith, the undersecretary of defense for policy. A former Middle East specialist on the National Security Council in the Reagan administration, Feith had long urged Israel to secure its borders in the Middle East by attacking Iraq and Iran. After Bush's election, Feith went to work to make that vision a reality, putting together a team of neoconservative hawks determined to drive the U.S. to attack Tehran. Before Bush had been in office a year, Feith's team had arranged a covert meeting in Rome with a group of Iranians to discuss their clandestine help.

~snip~

In his first extensive interview about the covert Pentagon operation, Ledeen makes no secret of his desire to topple the government in Tehran. "I want to bring down the regime," he says. "I want the regime gone. It's a country that is fanatically devoted to our destruction."
~~

I think the world is in the grip of fanatics.
