PEACE
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 05:54 PM by MoseyWalker
Peace is not just a concept. Peace is a belief that leads to an action that leads to humans treating one another in more rational ways than they might have done.

Peace is what happens when "those bad guys on the other side" understand that no progress can happen without it.

Peace is an idea that permeates our core. What child is born with a hateful look in his or her eye looking for war with whatever is out there?

Peace should be cherished and sought.

Those who acquire peace should be admired. Not questioned.

Peace is what we all need to survive, because if one of our brothers or sisters is killed, then a piece of us is killed.

Peace is what causes us to be reborn as humans.

When peace is seen as a joke, then the joke's on me.

I want to see the world laughing at their stupidity.

Let the joke be on everyone, and then they'll realize.

Peace is the only answer.

1. "Something to sink like a stone"?
Justice is the only answer, peace is a false 'truth', an abused framing meaning
something more than that, and when there is no justice, it is complex.

2. Peace is a false truth?
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 06:02 PM by MoseyWalker
justice comes only from peace. that should be an understood truth. The only time peace is abused is when others frame it in ways that distort it.

Peace.

edit: sorry, I changed the subject title

3. What peace with tyrants?
Better the public was angry and demonstrated in the street in front of the white house. THe "peace" is false.

Justice would command action, and peace is a mythical abstract, that is implied to mean justice as well, and in
this i agree with you, but in a blind kneejerk way, beauty pageant contestants want whirled peas, and its a fluffy wish.

If those same people took that wooly wish in to their actions, then they might have to endure hardship for justice,
fight for something, or even risk their lives for something they believe... but peace is not better, not when there
is oppression. There will be no peace in iraq until the USA leaves, and this is a sort of justice, spinned or not.

5. I'm disappointed
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 06:10 PM by MoseyWalker
I don't believe that peace comes from a wish or the wave of a wand from some good fairy.

but.....I do believe that peace doesn't come from harboring thoughts and feelings of anger, repression and hurt.

Peace comes from rising above and going beyond those feelings that all have for whatever reasons, and taking action towards stopping violence.

11. Raise us above the distinctions and differences which divide
Send us the Peace of Thy Divine Spirit,
And unite us all in Thy Perfect Being.

25. uh, i think you have it backwards...
...without justice, there can be no peace...or, peace without justice is merely a ceasefire...or peace without justice is subjugation...just a thought.

peace with subjugation is just a thought..........

there is no peace with subjugation. That should be known without saying.

ascribed meanings.

Then, watch out. Apparently, meanings have the power to cause actions.

7. The key to peace
is to have peace within one's own being. This is the "greater struggle" that Muhammed (pbuh) spoke about, and is not an easy thing to accomplish. But if we all try....

10. If we all try.........
that's one of the keys! We have to keep the idea fresh in our minds, and know that it isn't just some fairy tale wish, but could be reality.

It can. I know it.

13. All the mystics have said this for years
To quote from The Bowl of Saki by Sufi Inayat Khan-

Man must first create peace in himself
if he desires to see peace in the world,
for, lacking peace within,
no effort of his can bring any result

(words for contemplation on July 2)

If you have met a person who has mastered this, their actions are gentle, and yet quite profound. To be in their presence is to be raised higher.

20. Let there be peace
And let it start with me.

I know peace is part of the human condition, but one not allowed to nurture and grow. I wonder what we would become if peace was allowed to be free?

16. Peace without love?
externally attained love - maybe

Internally - not a chance.

Love without peace happens all the time because people attach their feelings of love to those who misguide them.

30. ?
external?

There are many things one needs that are not external. Identity, for example, you can't function without some concept, or state of being, refered to as "who you are". We call it identity and it certainly is not external.

22. what child- actually
the child of a stressed out mother develops differently than the child of a well fed, well loved, well cared for mother. babies in the womb constantly interrogate their environment, is it a safe world or is it a dangerous world? their primary form of information is the level of the stress hormone cortisol in their mothers blood. the stressed baby's brain develops more in motor control and reflexes. a severely stressed baby will be prone to violence. the peaceful baby develops more in language and emotion. peace feeds on peace, fear and hate feed on fear and hate.
caring for every pregnant woman and her child will bring peace in a generation.

23. I've seen many babies
born from mothers who were addicted to various substances. Their father also.

I still have never looked into the eyes of a baby so birthed that had any indication of hate.

Sure. They may soon be concerned, and may even worry. Sure. They may question and cry, but............hate?

I haven't ever seen it.

29. I once did a bit of research on addicted babies
Including visiting a center to detox them. I've held and rocked the little guys while they could only cry in discomfort. They know pain and frustration for sure. Hate is a concept we teach, I believe. Love seems to come far more naturally, even if the attachment was originally a survival mechanism. (No social anthropologist, me!)

Anyway, what research seems to show that the outcome of most these children depends on the environment on which they were raised.

I still believe world peace is obtainable.
