Margaret Atwood on Bill Moyers (transcript) |
|
Martin Amis transcript also, but By the time he came on, I had a years worth of revelations to integrate. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/print/faithandreason106_print.htmlhttp://www.pbs.org/moyers/The full video will be up at a later date. the Jeanette Winterson was very good, and Rushdie is always worth the time. Winterson's video http://www.pbs.org/moyers/portraits_winterson.htmlMy wife just finished "Weight" and totally enjoyed it.

I was glued to the set while Ms. Atwood was talking. She's fascinating! Unfortunately, I had to miss the last few minutes of her interview and much of Mr. Amis's, so the transcript is most appreciated.

I just bookmarked the transcript! Thank you! I read Handmaid when it first came out and have never forgotten it, and several of her more recent works as well.

3. so who does this remind us of? . . . |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 04:30 AM by OneBlueSky
Margaret Atwood: "There is a heresy called the antinomian heresy. And somebody says that Tony Blair's a member, but never mind that. Under antinomianism you're convinced that you are one of the elect, alright that you are one of the elect, that you are destined to be elect from birth. That you're going to be saved no matter what, and therefore you can do anything, because you're already marked as one of the elect. So that of course just let's you do all the most atrocious things you might be inclined to do, while still believing that you are justified."
on edit . . . add this to the equation . . .
"What is needed for really good tyranny is an unquestionable idea or authority. Political disagreement is political disagreement. But political disagreement with a theocracy is heresy."
