Excuse me, Mr. Lieberman? by Michael Schiavo
Excuse me, Mr. Lieberman?
by Michael Schiavo
Sun Jul 30, 2006

In the media and political circus surrounding my case a few people stood out. Tom Delay, of course. Rick Santorum and Bill Frist. President Bush.

And Joe Lieberman.

Not only did Joe Lieberman support the illegal political intervention in the private and legally protected decisions of my family, he went out of his way to defend it. On national television.

So when I thought about going to Connecticut to remind voters what Joe Lieberman really thinks about family values and personal privacy, I didn't have to think too long.

Last Friday Ned Lamont and I stood between Connecticut's historic Capitol and Supreme Court speaking to reporters (video) about Joe Lieberman's disconnect from average Americans.

But it was Joe Lieberman's comment while I was in Connecticut with Ned Lamont that should show everyone Joe Lieberman still doesn't get it.

1. But everyone knows Lamont is only running on the Anti-War issue.
What's Micheal Schiavo thinking bringing up the fact that Lieberman voted to take away his spousal duty to do what was best for his wife? I say we just listen to Holy Joe and forget everything he's done in the past decade.

Joe Lieberman for US Senate - Because it's so easy to forget.

2. This is an incredible diary. R&K!
More from the link:
According to press reports, Lieberman said, "It's time for politicians to let Terri Schiavo rest in peace."

Really?

Mr. Lieberman, where was your sense of compassion for Terri last year when you went on "Meet the Press" to say politicians should get involved?

Mr. Lieberman, you, Tom Delay, Bill Frist, Marilyn Musgrave and other right-wing politicians thought Terri was a prime political issue then.

Mr. Lieberman, I must have missed your passionate speech on the Senate floor about how this issue, this case, my family was not a cause for politicians. I missed it, Senator, because you never gave such a speech.

When it came time to count hands and be heard, Mr. Lieberman, you threw in with Bill Frist and George Bush.

Michael Schiavo is positively atomic! :nuke:

If I hadn't been unemployed for the past four months, I'd donate to his PAC.
He deserves all the help he can get.

3. K&R
I didn't remember Lieberman weighing in on Schiavo but it doesn't surprise me. "Let Terri rest in peace" my ass. His hypocrisy grows by the day.

8. Unless he starts bitching at Tom Harkin
Schiavo is a hypocrite. Harkin was one of the few Senators who actually voted for the bill. All Lieberman did was say that he supported it only because there was no signed living will.

It's too bad he's aligned himself with a dilettante opportunist featherbrain like Lamont.

10. So hypocrite now means now doing exactly what you want?
Or does it mean throwing out a nondenial then childish insults? I would be very interested to hear your definition.

5. Rarely have I hated the right more than during the Schiavo debacle.
Just my luck, my state's beloved senator had to throw his "Democratic" tuchus into the fray.

I am so-o-o-o looking forward to August 8!

6. The responses which followed were great, too
I'd almost forgotten just how many times "BushCo Joe" has sold us down the river.

9. Schiavo spent 3-5 hrs a day with Terri, her mom visisted once a month
and her father visited Terri once a year! And the parents should decide? This was at the time Mike first asked for the order to remove her tube. It's all part of the court record and if her parents could have disproved it I'm sure they would have.

All the doctors and court and legislative proceedings in Flordia were not enough for Lieberman. I'd like to argue that Joe just didn't know but he voiced his opinion in 2004 when he ran for prez so he must have done some study of the case before he made it a crusade. Don't you think?

When I first read that's the reason that tipped Ned into running I sent him money. I just did again. I wish there was more press on this. The NYTimes endorsement of Lamont hinted at this, wish it had said more. I've not heard one talking head mention this.
