Israeli warplanes launched raids on eastern Lebanon on Monday, Lebanese security sources said, hours after the Jewish state suspended aerial bombardment of south Lebanon for 48 hours.

The sources said at least two air strikes hit roads near the border with Syria in the early hours.

JERUSALEM, July 31 (Reuters) - Israel said on Monday it launched air strikes in eastern Lebanon overnight but that the raids occurred before the start of a 48-hour suspension of aerial bombardments in the south.

Earlier, Lebanese security sources said Israel had launched attacks after the suspension went into effect and that at least two air strikes hit roads near the Lebanese border with Syria in the early hours of Monday.

That does it. Good night all.

5. That was only for South of Lebanon.
48 hours of not bombing SOUTHERN Lebanon only. And they are trying to work a deal to have a 24 hour period for civilians in the SOUTH of Lebanon be able to evacuate. Though how they will do that is a mystery. And where they would go since the rest of Lebanon is still a FIRE zone I do not know. Oh yes, and the 48 hour not bombing SOUTH Lebanon can be broken IF Israel thinks someone (Hezbullah)is preparing to launch rockets or attack Israel.

The cease fire was like Mr.bush. Not a lie, but a deception.

7. Thanks for the info.
I just assumed that aerial bombardment was ceased throughout Lebanon for 48 hours........and not only the southern section.

Ran across this thread while getting one last check in before bed ;)

You know, uppityperson, I couldn't agree with you more. When I first rode vicariously, with the late David Bloom of NBC News, across the Iraqi desert from Kuwait during the land invasion of Iraq, I felt like the cavalry, riding in to save the Iraqi people, and ourselves, from the evil Saddam.

Now, I've just had about much war as I can take.

11. Agreements, security council dictates, UN resolutions, mean nothing.
To Israel, to the United States. Just scraps of paper.
