or at least some of my ramblings lol. But seriesly friends a lot of you have told me you enjoy my taxi reports and have even urged me to try to get published. Although being a published author would be an incredible dream of mine fulfilled I have never really entertained it seriously. I may pursue this but I wanted some further advice from you, who I truly consider many friends even though we've never met, about the process you think I should take and the direction. I promise all 90,000+ of you WILL be credited with assistant editor status if it happens. We might need to put out a separate book for it but so be it.
First off. If those of you who have complimented me and encouraged me were in any way simply being polite or blowing unwarranted sunshine up my ass, speak now and please save me from the laughter of agents.
The main questions I have for you is do you think I should keep it specifically to what I've learned from the soldiers, obviously more focused and timely, or should I do the whole ball of wax and just throw every bizarre cab story I've had out there? Has it been done? HBO did "taxicab confessions" and it's pretty hard to compete with raw video these days and the city I live in is quite small so my stories pale in comparison to say, a NYC cabbie, but still, I have seen some shit. What say you my friends and eventual recipients of my first book's dedication?
I also have several ideas for horror novels, (not all with a cabbie as the protagonist but a couple. You write what you know right?)and even a political thriller. There's still that 7 years of radio I did and that would be a prurient, bizarre, epic as well. I don't know if I can get someone like Pitt or any of DU's published authors to give me some advice but any would be appreciated. I really have no idea what to submit to an agent. I don't have a completed novel as of yet but I plan on tying together some kind of treatment chapter out of my reports and I was wondering if that is ever accepted?
My writing on DU is primarily therapeutic for me but I am honored that you have enjoyed it and encouraged its growth. I've worked in "show business", albeit small city show business, enough to know not to have unreasonably high expectations of success. She is indeed a harsh and cruel land to dwell in. So anything that happens, if I got a poem published in reader's digest, it would all be gravy to me. Wow 6 spelling errors. Clearly I'm going to need an exceptional editor as well lol.
