George Bush? I'd like to kill him says Peace Prize winner
By Maureen Coleman 31 July 2006
One of Northern Ireland's leading peace campaigners has publicly expressed a desire to kill President George Bush.
Betty Williams, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 30 years ago, told hundreds of Australian schoolchildren that despite her background, she did not believe she was "non-violent" because of her feelings towards the US President.
Mrs Williams, who was campaigning on the rights of young people at the Earth Dialogues forum held in Brisbane, said: "I have a very hard time with the word 'non-violent', because I don't believe that I am non-violent.
"Right now, I would love to kill George Bush."
Her comments were greeted by cheering and clapping from the school-children.
Mrs Williams continued: "I don't know how I ever got a Nobel Peace Prize, because when I see children die, the anger in me is just beyond belief. It's our duty as human beings, whatever age we are, to become the protectors of human life."

8. I understand her feelings, but |
|
there's a bit of a disconnect between her words:
"Right now, I would love to kill George Bush."
"It's our duty as human beings, whatever age we are, to become the protectors of human life."
Either one is a killer, or one strives to become a protector. Can't have it both ways.

11. I doubt should would kill him if she could get away with it. She is just |
|
speaking about her feelings. People talk about killing all the time but only a very small number can actually do it - unless they are trained military.

12. Don't kill him. We need to save him for The Hague. |
|
But I take issue in general with your philosophy "Either one is a killer, or one strives to become a protector."
If Norman Bates comes after my kids with a big knife, I'd have no problem killing him. I'd try to stop him in non-lethal ways, but if I had to, I'd kill him. Wouldn't you?

14. There are also real threats, and then there are figures of speech. |
|
The schoolchildren of Brisbane understood that.
So did Milton Berle when he said "I'll kiw' you a miwyun' times."

7. I have a bit of a problem |

with this. I think it's wrong to advocate killing, especially to children.

9. Well, I dislike Bush myself |
|
But personally I would never advocate assassination. Murder is murder, even if the murdered is a murderer.
However... I would like to suggest a worldwide campaign of mailing bags of pretzels to the White House, Maybe he'd get the idea.

15. He didn't care about millions of protesters around the globe, |
|
he certainly wouldn't give a shit about a few dozen bags of pretzels.
Betty agrees with you in that she herself does not advocate assassination.
