Do you value love and forgiveness more than hate and condemnation? |
|
Do you like others to overlook your faults and give you the benefit of the doubt? Are liberals more accepting, generous, and forgiving than conservatives? Should we all just try to get along and quit being so hateful? Just generalizing here......Just sayin'.......Is live and let live a good philosophy?
Are we any "better" than right wing nuts? (These are the questions).

Surely you jest!
Liberals aren't more anything than anyone else. Liberals don't walk lock-step, do not take loyalty oaths and do not have one common perspective. Leading liberals is like herding cats or nailing Jello to the wall.
Liberals SHOULD be more accepting and more tollerant... should be.
Live and let live is a very good philosophy, imho. That would be live and let LIVE... not live and let die...

But I think unless we feel all of those things we cannot come to forgiveness. Unless we know anger we cannot know its wrong and then therefore find a path to forgive. Its a process of knowing why and what you are forgiving. Not just a simple act of saying that you accept. At least in my opinion. We all hold some judgment against others. Its why we form the opinions that we do, its why we pick sides to a certain degree. I think many people, from all sides of the coin, can have valid points that are worth listening to. Just depends on what the points are and how you agree with them. Conservatives have a wide range of complaints. I know many liberals who do the same thing, just about different topics. Its what makes the world go round. Tolerance isn't a political point, its a way of life. :)

7. Of course we are better than them. More accepting and generous for sure. |
|
However, I will never forget how they stole the elections of 2000 and 2004 nor will I "forgive" them. None of us should ever "try to get along" with the right wing nuts.... They are trying to assume complete control of the country and we cannot stop "hating" (I prefer distrusting) them for one second. If you don't believe me, read John Dean's new book, Conservatives without Conscience for an enlightening view of what these people are really all about.
On a personal level, I try not to do anything to hurt anyone intentionally, so I hope there is nothing to overlook. If someone does something to hurt me, I never forget it. I never "let bygones-be-bygones" or "bury the hatchet." I don't seek revenge, but I can never trust that person again. I can take a grudge to the grave.

I forgive pretty easily - maybe too easily. I've been known to forgive truly heinous and personal things. I try to understand why someone did something, what brought them to that decision/mental state. I can't say I hold it "against" them per se.
Better - I don't think in qualitative terms like that. In a different place on the path I think is more apt.
Forgetting - now that's the part I can't get to. While I may forgive, I will also stay the hell away from. I'm may be forgiving, but I'm not a fool. I believe in redemption, but redemption is earned IMO.

9. clarifying values is an interesting exercise |
|
It seems like the 'value' that competes with forgiveness would be justice-- it's a tradeoff. My theory is that many republicans over-value justice and undervalue forgiveness while liberals are more balanced.

Most atheists are more forgiving and compassionate than right wing Christian nuts.
Christianity is the most difficult religion to follow. The more loud mouthed a person is about being Christian, the less of a Christian he/she probably is.

11. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. |
|
I think that is a good rule for life in general. We are all just people with our human faults and foibles, I think most of fall well short of sainthood and need the occasional reminder from our friends or mentors to keep us on the correct path. I think many of the people on the pother side of the fence are just more accepting of authoritarianism.

There is just so much stress on the board, seemingly. We need to all take a step back and count to ten once in awhile. What kind of a world do we want to see? What can we do to make it? :hi:
