College Republicans at Princeton stumping for Lieberman - who's paying? |
|
E-mail I got from the Lamont campaign today:
Even if you have already done a letter to editor to a particular newspaper, you can still do one to another newspaper and this news should be seen by all voters.
On August 1, the College Republicans at Princeton sent an email message out to all it’s members, asking for volunteers to come to Connecticut to help Joe Lieberman.
The message said not only was Joe’s campaign paying for the bus trip, but was going to take care of lodging and food, etc. Now what better proof do we need than this to prove to voters that Joe is really George Bush and the Republican’s favorite Democrat !

2. To Assist In Lieberman Losing The Primary, Then Split The Vote |
|
in the general when Lieberman runs as an independent, allowing the Reich candidate a heretofore improbable win.
That is, leak information before a primary, in which Lieberman is being beat up because he is perceived as too close to the Reich, that he is indeed being helped by the Reich's youth corp.
If I were an evil cockroach like Rove, that is what I would be doing.

4. No chance of that happening |
|
Right now, Lieberman & Lamont will be splitting at least 80% of the vote. I'd be shocked if the Republican candidate - Alan Schlesinger - got more than 15-20% in a 3 way race.

5. Isn't The Reich Trying To Pull A Candidate Switch After The Primary? |
|
Seems I have heard things along those lines.
I agree, if Herr Schlesinger is the candidate, Ned and Joe will be competing over the 80% as you suggest.

My concern when Lamont entered the race several months back was what you just mentioned now. That, if there was a contentious 3 way race, somebody like a Chris Shays or a Nancy Johnson could be recruited to replace Alan Schlesinger. (my speculation at the time was that it was due to “health reason”... but, then the gambling issue popped up right on cue!) The Republicans would spin their entry into the race as a them being a “savior” for the state party… and Karl Rove might be willing to give up 1 seat in the house for a chance to pick up a seat in the Senate. However, if Democrats solidify around Lamont and Lieberman & Shays split the Republicans & Independents, Lamont still wins as Dems have a pretty good registration advantage in state.
Colin McEnroe, who has forgotten more about Connecticut politics than I know, seems to think Shays, Johnson or Simmons entering the race is a long shot. He had mentioned some zillionaire from the Gold Coast that was a big Bush supporter as a possibility, however.
That said, I think Lamont will get momentum if he wins the primary, and even more if he wins by double digits like the current polls. I think he would also win a 3 way race with Schlesinger & Lieberman after that.
If Lieberman is convinced to drop out of the race, I think Lamont beats Schlesinger handily in a 2 way race. I think Shays & Johnson give him a run for his money, though, in a two way race.

3. Trust Fund Kids for LIEberman |

They have much to gain by keeping the GOP in power. Joe has an honorary degree from the Repubs.

I've said all along that Lieberman should just run as a Republican.
