Lieberman to call for Rumsfeld resignation

RAW STORY
Published: Friday August 4, 2006

US Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) will appear, momentarily, on the Ed Schultz show, a nationally syndicated radio program on which he will call for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, RAW STORY has learned.

Sources have told RAW STORY that Lieberman will make a point of saying that while whether or not Rumsfeld leaves his post is the decision of President Bush, he should resign.

RAW STORY will post the audio when it becomes available.

8. This will be good practice to help us recognize when Republicans
start doing the same thing closer to the election.

I would have had more respect for Lieberman if he just stood his ground about the war. There are people in connecticut who still support the war and they need their candidate too.

Like a week ago Rick Santorum signed some letter saying he would pledge to fight GLBT discrimination and we all know that is a load of crap. Signing a letter isn't like actually going to congress and fighting for legislation to actually make the difference.

Which means this is likely a dog and pony show with the outcome already known and players are just playing their assigned parts, including Rummy.

15. Breaking! Facing plummeting numbers, Lieberman calls upon
Lieberman to resign! Seeking to tap into the anti-Lieberman sentiment in disaffected democrats, Joe Lieberman called upon himself to resign, forcing a special election. Capitalizing on the good will generated by his resignation he hopes to beat back Lamont's challenge, leaving him facing only himself.

31. Udate from Ed Schultz Show
"Rumsfeld serves at the pleasure of the President. But, I can tell you this, if I were President, I would say "Thank you, but we need some new leadership at the Pentagon."

Schultz then asked, "So you think Rumsfeld should go?" After an extended response by Lieberman, Schultz said that he was assuming Lieberman's answer to the question was "yes," "I have to take that as a "yes" I think our audience would take it as a "yes"."

Lieberman replied, "Yeah. Yeah Yeah. -- No,. No, it is a "yes"."

Sounded more like Ed had his head in a vice and was getting ready to pull out his fingernails.

32. Tin Foil Radar Up! Ok, Stay With Me Here, Can Ya Follow?
What if, just whattttt if, this is a signal (like the ones embedded in alqaeda videos lol) to shrubby that it is now ok to let rummy go. Remember the rumors that Lieberman was going to be the new sec of defense? Maybe this is Joe's way of conceding that he will no longer be in congress, and that he now wants the job. By saying to shrubby "get rid of rummy" he's really saying "ok shrubby, I'm gonna be free of my Congressional committments. I'm in now."

Ya think?

35. Am the teensiest bit leery of this info
Surely he would know how much that move would smack of desperation? Surely he could kiss his chances of a BIG job with bushco good-bye if he did this?

The only reason he would do this is that he is sure he will lose the primary and is setting himself as the Independent candidate, pandering to the anti-war CT voters in the fall. If he does do it, I will know that he will run as an Independent, instead of bowing out gracefully.

King George must have given ole Joe the green light. Rummy does have to go, the generals kind of openly disagreed with him, the world kind of openly disagrees with him. And Joe STILL had a hard time getting the words out.

Joementum - the first republican to call for Rummy's departure..kind of.
