Lieberman: It's a scam, folks! Look past the smoke - it's a SCAM! |
|
Lieberman losing tonight is all part of the grand plan. By filing as an Independent, he will split the Democratic vote in Connecticut in November, and the seat will go to the Republican.
The Republicans have it all fixed. They are giving us this victory now, only to yank the rug out from under us in November.
I'm glad Ned Lamont won, but I think the battle has JUST BEGUN! This is what the intended outcome was all along.

No doubt this race will be between Lieberman and Lamont in November. If the Freepers and Fox News are anything to go by, Joe might actually end up splitting the Republican vote more than the Democratic vote.

Joe's losing juice as I type this.
He'll lose a lot of support for turning his back on the Democratic party.
He may not be the second-half powerhouse he thinks he is.

....and gone.
What kind of field org will he have for the GOTV?I'm kind of sorry to see the remnants of what was once a strong, progressive Democrat. What's his leverage as an Independent? He'll lose his media oxygen...really, he's not going to get the 2nd or 3rd call to chat up the Sunday talk shows. Republicans will abandon their candidate to support Joe? Doubtful.
Joe got Washington-itis and thought he was above reproach. He's even deluded himself into thinking he'll win without an organization.
Ego, ergo, he go...

12. Yep, the word is that Repukes changed to Dem to vote for Lamont |
|
and will change back to vote and split the dems in Nov. But, a lot can happen until then and Joe's ego had to have taken a huge smack. Plus his behavior now will upset more than a few of this "supporters." I don't think we should worry too much. And CT voters are very savvy.

The deadline to switch from one party to another was May 8. Lieberman was not worried then and neither were his supporters. So it is doutbful that a large mass of registered Republicans switched to the Democratic Party. In fact there were very few switches from one party to another. The peoeple registering as Democrats were new voters and non affiliated voters.

Schlesinger is embroiled in a gambling and card-counting scandal, wherein he was found to have been gambling under assumed names to hide from the casino pit bosses, and was sued by two casinos when he failed to pay his gambling debts to them.
There may be no one on the Republican ballot to split the vote with.

I'm not familiar with Connecticut law regarding this, it would seem to me it should be too late for that, but as sneaky as they are nothing would surprise me at this point. Are there any squeaky clean Republicans in Connecticut who could run?
As I said, it would seem to be too late, but on NPR this morning they were discussing the possibility of a new Republican to challenge Lamont and Lieberman.

28. I hope this isn't the case, but there are a lot of unanswered questions. |
|
We know Joe is close to Bush. Now that he lost, why doesn't he just shut up and go home? Why is he willing to drag the Democratic Party through the mud? The attacks against other Dems have already started. Why is a long time Dem suddenly willing to essentially turn against his party?
I'm aware of the Repug candidates problems. Let's not forget that George Bush had a few problems to overcome as well. Drunk driving, drug abuse, shaky business deals, etc., and he's now President. Elected or not, he's in the Oval Office, adding signing statements to our new laws, as he alone sees fit to do.
I really do wonder if the Republicans are going to use Lieberman and Lamont as a wedge issue going into the November elections. "The Democratic Party is fractured, long time members are abandoning the party to run as Independents because the Democrats have lost touch with the people." "The Democrats don't have a plan, the party is moving further to the left than ever before, they have lost sight of their values."
I can hear it now. No doubt their creative people are already well into the planning stage to create ads that capitalize on this issue.
It just doesn't make sense. Joe has gotten closer to Bush in recent years, and now he abandons his party, knowing this will create problems. It just seems to me there's more to it than meets the eye. Perhaps Joe is just a pig, who thinks only of himself, and doesn't care what the fallout of his actions does to others. After seeing all that's happened in the last 6 years, I think we need to keep our eyes and our minds open as we head into the November elections, and the elections beyond. These people are not going to go down easily.

|
I keep hearing there's a very real possibility the Republicans may insert a new candidate in Connecticut. I didn't catch the whole thing, but apparently there are some loopholes that could allow this to happen.
If the Repuke crook gets indicted, or something else happens that would force him to withdraw, could the GOP just pick a new candidate?
If this does indeed occur, it could explain a lot.

The Republican candidate has 0 chance of winning this election. This race is going to be between Lamont and Lieberman, and sadly we'll see the spectre of not only Republicans throwing their weight behind Lieberman, but most likely moderate and conservative Dems as well, along with the DLC. Lieberman has been a good corporate whore for many years, and now he is going to cash in all those chits. He's already got the corporate MSM on his side, and sadly the rest will follow.

38. I know that the Republicans are going to take every advantage of this |
|
situation, and use it anyway they can to their own advantage.
I really believe there's more to this story than we know, given Lieberman's alliance with Bush lately, and the fact that he's basically deserted his party, regardless of the consequences. I really feel that someone has offered him something very tempting.
Perhaps Joe himself will change his party affiliation if he gets elected...based on how the Dems tossed him to the wolves.
