48% of Conn Dems don't think the War is that big a deal |
|
to not vote for Loserman... That really bothers me though...
I'm glad JL lost, but I was sure it would have been more than 4%.. This has me worried.
anyone else?

1. No, not really. It wasn't only about the war, and Joe did have support. |
|
I wonder what they think, though, now that he's no longer a Democrat. Will they be comfortable with his Repub supports?

A lot of voters aren't very well-informed, and will vote for the candidate they are most familiar with. That's why incumbents are so difficult to beat -- name recognition is a huge advantage. I'd guess many of the 48% who voted for Joe, voted for him mainly because he is familiar to them, a factor that can be more important than any particular issue.

I'm sure that there was some small perecentage of Lamont supporters in that category, too.

4. Incumbants in America become entrenched. |

I expect from now until November, most who supported him will come to their senses and not help these radical republicans stay in power by voting independent (though it is their choice). I certainly haven't been happy with some of the dems I've supported but felt I had to because the bush administration has been so extreme and though Greens were running which offered more of an alternative, I knew they couldn't win.

5. Yup. The margin should have been bigger. But... |
|
lots of Lieberman's votes were indy's ( they were allowed to register as DEMS until yesterday) and others were crossover REPS ( had to change registration 90 days ago, but the Lamont challenge was well underway by then).
Others were confused by Clinton, Boxer ( shame), and Harkin ?!?!) and the rest of the parade of elected DEMS who came here for Lieberman.
The dynamic will shift now. I'd hesitate to predict exactly how, but Lamont should start looking very.... well, senatorial right about now to a lot of people who haven't been able to picture him thusly up to now.

but I understand that defense industries employ alot of people in CT.
I remember a caller to c-span saying that Lieberman has support for his position on the war because of that. The caller was employed by that industry.
