here's proof that this new terrrrr story is all BS: |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 11:41 PM by musette_sf
anecdotal proof... but think about it:
so everyone at every US airport today had to ditch any liquid product in their carry-on.
did you notice that the only place the ditched items went was the TRASH, and it was just hauled outside to be picked up by the regular TRASH HAULERS?
one would think that if there was some damn real reason why this HAD to be done:
1. the persons confiscating the items would have been Hazmat types; 2. the items would have been securely placed in Hazmat explosive disposal containers; 3. the containers would have been transported to a location for further testing and inspection; 4. following forensic evaluation of each item, Hazmat trucks would have transported the disposal containers to a Hazmat destruction location.
(I can't take credit for this, it actually was Gene Burns on KGO, who can be a tool politically, but he was spot on with this observation)
one would also think that each confiscated item would be tagged with the passenger ID information, so that we could actually APPREHEND whatever "terrrrrrrsts" we're supposed to foil with this ridiculous passenger harrassment.
but as we all know, there is no sane fvcking reason on earth that this mass confiscation of personal items took place.
:grr: oh yeah, Skeletor Chertoff is on top of it. not.

what the authorities are talking about, is so unstable that demolition teams won't even use it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TATPThe trimer is the more stable form, but not much more so than the dimer. All forms of acetone peroxide are very sensitive to initiation. Organic peroxides are sensitive, dangerous explosives. The military does not use them because there are many much better alternatives. Even for people who synthesize homemade explosives, there are many far safer alternatives. Even nitroglycerin is not nearly as sensitive as acetone peroxide.

3. I think the story is BS too but |
|
even if true, I don't think it would call for labelling everything hazmat. The story was that two people were supposed to combine two separate items together and that made the explosive. Singly, neither of the items was explosive. So as long as the two materials were not mixed together in a certain way, there was no explosive.

6. Airport security has never been much more... |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 12:01 AM by Kutjara
..than window dressing. If the world had to rely on the dunces who man the x-ray machines and metal detectors for its safety, we'd have been screwed long ago. All that rigmarole is just to show the public that 'something is being done.' This latest charade is just another stage in the Kabuki theater the world's governments have been pulling for the past 30 years on an ovine public.
A terrorist puts a bomb in a radio, so forever after we have to answer inane questions about our electronic goods. A terrorist gives his girlfriend a bomb to carry, so forever more we have to answer other inane questions about whether we packed our own luggage or let it out of our sight for two seconds. A terrorist uses boxcutters, so forevermore our nailclippers and toothpicks are weapons of mass destruction. A terrorist tries to light his shoes so, forevermore, we have to take off our shoes. A terrorist makes a liquid bomb, so forevermore we will sit parched on longhaul flights waiting for a drinks trolley to amble down the aisle toward us. Meanwhile, the 'terrorists' are working on their next novelty bomb, unlike anything airport security are currently looking for.
Taking this to its absurd conclusion, within a few years, we'll be shuffling to our flights in orange jumpsuits and paper shoes, with nothing but our implanted identity chips to tell us apart from the rest of the huddled mass. And the 'terrorists' will still find a way to carry out attacks.

|

announcement being made by some nobody local police guy. Then the still totally non specific description of the "liquid explosives" that were apparently ready to be used in the next 48 hours. Next, the revelation that an "agent" was involved with the plot, then the flourish of this red alert deal after they claimed that everybody was arrested.
This plot is bogus.

I think you are right and other posters are wrong. If any item WAS dangerous the airlines were in the perfect position to find out who had them with them. Does anyone think that an innocent passenger would accidentally carry a half of a "binary explosive" in an innocuous package? My water IS water, but if one in one million is a bomb component, why offer an "amnesty box" to get rid of evidence-so what we see is theater or a lie....

14. They intercepted a very similar plot in 1994 |
|
WITHOUT all this mass hysteria. And that was after the first bombing at the WTC. The perpetrators of both those plots are in jail. They were apprehended with the tools available at the time; there was no banning of shampoo and water on airplanes. There was no TSA to scare the hell out of people- no need for Gestapo tactics. We were so much better off under Clinton, it isn't funny.

admin. are pro-Israel and much more than the expected proportionate percentage are Jewish. The 'threat' might have been real, but the manner in which it was carried out is to instill fear. So, who are the real terrorists here? Israel and the neo-cons are leading us into WWIII and the Christian Zionists are exulting in the expected 'rapture.' This world is mad.

Hasn't everyone else had to drink from the bottle of water or sports drink or whatever they are carrying in -- you have to take a slug of it to prove it's not some explosive and they sort of sniff around it too. I've had to do that since 9/11 when attempting to board a flight with a drink of any kind in tow; and yet I read that that was part of the deal, bringing this stuff in drink containers on 9 differenet flights or whatever.

34. This is a similar hypothesis to one offered by a DUer concerning 9/11 |
|
I forgot the DUer's name by he/she said (in support of LIHOP/MIHOP) that if the attacks on 9/11 were really a surprise, then everyone on any commercial plane (ie, ready to take off) who was grounded immediately following the attacks would have been questioned before leaving the airport. The theory goes that once it was determined that attacks were in progress involving planes used as missiles, then everyone would be suspected since there would be no way of knowing how extensive the plot was. Instead, once their flight was canceled and they were off the plane, they were free to go. This is in line with your theory that all liquids would have been treated as suspected explosives since no one would really know the true extent of this plot, rather than simply gathered up and thrown away.
