Increasing Bonuses, Army Raises Goals for Recruitments

Published: January 19, 2006
WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (AP) - After falling well short of its recruiting goals last year, the Army has set even higher monthly targets for this summer, hoping that new financial incentives will attract high school and college graduates despite continuing deaths in Iraq.

From June to September, the Army will try to recruit 8,600 to 10,400 soldiers a month. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/19/national/19recruit.html?oref=login

1. I don't get it, the only thing we can do against Iran is
Bomb the whold country. We don't have ground troops. It would take months to even overthrow the goverment and we souldn't occupy. Whats the incentive?

2. dear bill,
I have posted on this topic many times now and I believe you have posted on this topic also. There is no war in the offing at all. There is not enough money, there are not enough troops. Short of re-introducing the draft there are not enough troops, short of Eisenhower era tax rates there is not enough money.

The reason the army has widened the age limit is because they can't keep current levels of manpower. All the kids that enlisted after 9/11 and didn't re-up are coming out soon. Consider the treatment they've been getting with stop-loss and other forms of indentured serfdom the Commander-in-Thief has been imposing. They can finally leave the Army and are doing so in droves.

3. Once things start looking too bleak for Bush
or we get close to the election, it's war time. Either that or another terror attack! This time they'll blow something up and blame it on the gay community.
