NBC now reporting they don’t think the woman had a note or a stiff drink |

Oh, geez.
Oh, geez.
NBC now reporting they don’t think the woman had a note.
AP now reporting that she may or may not have had Vaseline, screwdriver or matches. (Coming from Heathrow, how could she?)
Seems she was claustrophobic.

17. Aren't these the ingredients for the Screaming Viking? |
|
You start with a screwdriver (vodka and orange juice) then you drop in a dollop of vaseline and set it on fire. Or maybe I should go watch that episode of "Cheers" again.

Oh you're killing me over here!
Just got home, and "forgot the bruised cucumber" is the first thing I see, crazy. I want a drink. Hmmm, but what?
I think I'll just have a beer.... :toast: Thanks for the great humor!

|
and i got pulled out of line, wanded and patted down w/o the benefit of a dinner and movie mind you so i find it very hard to believe this woman actually got a screwdriver on board with her.

8. She just had a panic attack |
|
It easily could have been my Mom, who also has a panic disorder, carries bottled water and is scared shitless by BushCo "cry wolf" terrorism.
Just yesterday she told me she doesn't want to ever fly again.

35. She carries a water bottle everywhere, especially on planes |
|
I'm fairly sure her doctor requested she bring a "crutch" with her on planes as part of the therapy. Her crutch of choice is a big blue water bottle.
Now what is she supposed to do?

36. I don't think it is a crutch. |
|
Like I said, I get incredibly thirsty when my level of fear rises. My mouth gets dry. Maybe she could tell her doctor that she is experiencing an incredibly dry throat when it happens and he'll write her a note. I'm not sure the Bush stormtroopers at the airports will listen though. My suggestion, drive and see the country or sail and see the world.

for her own safety.
Its only a matter of time before someone has a panic attack and the airline passengers beat the hell out of the person, possibly to death.

10. The low level hysteria coming out of CNN and MSNBC is |
|
embarrassing. The woman had a panic attack apparently, pilot decides to land at Logan and the cable news folks are right there, running around with any shred of "information" - vaseline and a screwdriver? - chanting "terror! terror! terror!". They will finally report there was never any threat, nor any terror connection...
This grows tiresome.

20. Yeah, didn't they shoot a man dead in Miami last year who |
|
had the same sort of thing--a panic attack, tried to get off the plane before it left.
I'm starting to get more worried about the antsy security guards than the terrorists in some ways.

25. I was on a flight with a woman having a panic attack |
|
She freaked out because the plane was taking to long to takeoff. She was truely scared shitless.
We ended up taxi'ing back to the gate. Then she didnt want to leave the plane, but the pilot insisted that she leave.
Eventually a couple airline reps got on the plane and insisted quite strongly so she left.
I never did hear what happened after that. I suspect she was either given medical treatment or sent home. Never a peep on the news.
Of course that was before 9/11. If that happened now, It would be on CNN I guess and she would be in GITMO.

11. THIS RIGHT HERE is why 24 hour news SUCKS ASS |
|
1. Some innocuous thing that is blown all out of proportion by the participants themselves because of the TERRAH TERRAH TERRAH chant happens.
2. CNN/FOX/MSNBC gets wind of it and immedately cuts in with the latest and greatest "TERRAH!" banner, which is prominently displayed throughout the course of coverage.
3. In the early stages, reporters and anchors will babble incoherently and say ANY DAMN THING THAT OCCURS TO THEM. Producers will then splash the UTTERLY MADE UP FACTS across the bottom of the screen, just under the latest and greatest "TERRAH!" banner.
4. We are treated to a "live shot" of the outside of a plane, or a building, or wherever the innocuous event is occuring. At the slightest hint of any movement, reporters and anchors will WILDLY SPECULATE as to the meaning. If a dog walks across the shot, it's because everyone knows that animals are highly attuned to stressful situations and we could be in for SERIOUS TOUBLE very soon.
5. Actual facts are slowly gathered, but due to the very nature of a breaking "story", they don't form any sort of coherent picture at first. This is irrelevant, because the reporters and anchors have no qualms about WILDLY SPECULATING as to the meaning. "This just in, the suspect was said to have eaten a hearty breakfast. Be on the lookout for people who aren't hungry."
6. Experts are brought in to help analyze the situation. The experts are generally known for one specific viewpoint, so the entire story will be spun tightly around that viewpoint.
7. When the whole story is known, it will be buried in the print media, which is ok, because the next exciting installment of BREAKING NEWS has already begun.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
