So, CNN wants to be Fox? Let' em
The way I look at it, there's only a finite number of right-wing idiots out there. CNN's ratings may go up, but if they do, then Fox's will go down (which is a good thing). I don't watch either of them. MSNBC either. I could care.

Impeach the Media!

1. I wish you were right
But if there's a buck to be made by being a rw maniac in the media, there will never be a shortage of rw maniacs. What I'd like to see is some progressives make big bucks. I think the tide would turn then.

To a certain extent, progressives have made large amounts of money in book publishing, and lots of great progressive books get published, but as Randi says, "If it isn't on the teevee, it doesn't exist."

8. For sure
Unfortunately, it would take someone with deep pockets like Ted Turner to throw millions into it with no expectation it would show a profit for years.

3. They'll be lucky if they break even.
They might pick up a few of Fox's non-hardcore viewers, but that will be offset by the loss of their more moderate ones. Since this obivously can't be a business-based decision, the pressure on CNN to steer further right must be coming from elesewhere--the Bush White House, perhaps?

4. I'd be tempted to agree with that perspective
except that all this propaganda is just shifting everything to the right to the point that something moderate/centrist is demonized as the radical left liberal media. The media does shape a lot of perception in this country, if not all of it. I'd prefer to have people exposed to more than just Fox and Fox Light.

5. What is the standard of measurement used
for the cable ratings? Do they count if you view the program for a minimum of 1 minute????? Do you have to watch the entire program? How do they choose which viewers are to be rating the programs?

I don't want to facilitate their game.I'll just block CNN and Fox.

6. problem is really a bit more complex than that IMO --
for one thing, there's the RW NEED to spout and repeat the propaganda, to promote their agenda and control the sheeple with the constant drumbeat of nationalism and fear, thus justifying a never-ending state of war AND the loss of personal freedoms so that "daddy" can protect them. that necessitates takeover of media. all major networks preferably, so that there is unity of message.

then there is the fact that right now RW nuts are the loudest part of population. they seem to make up nearly half the total population and the "conventional wisdom" is that they are the people with the $$. so it makes the first part of the formula lucrative as well as politically astute (even if it IS evil).

7. Troll the trailer parks with a $20 and see how much you get
Didn't Armstrong Williams write a bunch of stuff questioning NCLB? Then, he gets a $240K check, and he's all of a sudden writing prose in praise for it.

There's a bunch of people out there who are willing to make a fast buck for spewing whatever they're told to write.

Witness (or is it witless?) Michelle Malkin and Mannthrax Coulter . . . try reading their random typing . . . I did, and I felt sick . . .
