5 years after Clinton Failed to stop 9-11 & Failed to get Osama
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 05:39 AM by Philosoraptor
This is an imaginary headline, just another one of those parlor games where you imagine what would've happened had all this bullshit of the last 6 years had occurred under the last legally elected president's watch.

First of all, this little game always has the same answer: The republicans would have hung him from a tree years ago. I realize that the only reason bush has gotten away with all this bullshit is the republican controlled house and senate and too many spineless members of the 'opposition' party.

Can you believe that America is not now BURNING DOWN with the recent revelations about bush's failure to prevent nine eleven and failure to capture the perp five fucking years later?

To me, this is the most glaring and stunning mental disconnect I've ever witnessed. The stupidest, most incompetent, most dangerous fuck up we have ever produced is STILL STANDING THERE, and Americans are for the most part O.K. with it.

I am now beginning to believe in the alternate dimension theories, and I think I've slipped into one.

on edit: my subject line is one of the favorite accusations of the right wing dickheads, that this is ALL CLINTON'S FAULT. Talk about a mental disconnect.

1. Indeed
The Rethugs keep claiming that we need them in office to protect us from terr'ists and what has happened in the past 6 years (if we are to believe all the hype)? Terrorism has gotten worse! That is not a sign that they are doing a very good job.

5. right now -- i think that zebra are showing better instincts
than americans.

seems to me that zebras would have gotten way more skittish after the ''killing'' repukes made after 00 -- but that's just me.

4. And why do we go along with the idea that it is unfairly "politicizing"
the issue to simply state the truth?

That, at the very least, the Bush administration ignored numerous warnings of an imminent attack, and failed to take any measures (such as checking watch lists) to avoid a hijacking.

That Bush decided that attacking Iraq was more important than continuing to pursue bin Laden.

That we still haven't acted on the minimal recommendations of the 911 commission.

6. The cross-dimensional slip occurred in 1997
I remember remarking on it to my sister, who felt the same. Nothing specific caused us to have the feeling. Just a gut sense that something was suddenly very, very wrong and that bad times loomed ahead. And I said the same thing at the time, "It's like we've jumped into an alternate universe...."

I wonder.

7. ABC has a special "based on the 9/11 Commission report"
"The Path to 9/11"
http://abc.go.com/specials/pathto911.html
This goes from the 1993 bombing to 9/11. From what I have seen it appears that the Clinton years will dominate ("We are responsible!!!") is clearly heard in one ad I have seen. This is understandable since the Clinton people had some recollection of actually doing something on this matter while the Bush 8 months is nearly vacant of ANY detail of doings in the actual 9/11 report.

Should be interesting to watch.

That being said-it isn't just that Bush has escaped any blame for 9/11 it is that he takes credit for it. Think about that, he takes credit for the events of that day. His administration was floundering after having gotten the ridiculous tax cuts thanks to Daschle and a dimwitted Democratic Congressional leadership. Hell they had their convention in NYC and basically danced on the graves of the dead complete with red, white, and blue decorations.

Amazing. I have to hold out hope that 10 years from now thanks mainly to the internet that the story of the Bush administration and 9/11 (among everything else) will be one of shame and guilt.

8. There would be two numbers touted at the opening of every RW show
(a la the origins of "Nightline"):

Number of days since 9/11 without catching ObL

Number of dead soldiers (updated the minute they get news) killed during the hunt in Afghanistan (because we would have kept up the fight to kill ObL) for ObL ...
