OBL tape...remember the alleged Saddam tapes and Rendon Group?
From something I wrote a couple years ago for Buzzflash:

The Asia Times article revealed an alleged campaign to discredit Saddam Hussein led by the Rendon Group, a DC-based public relations firms with close ties to the US government. According the article, the firm hired an Iraqi Harvard graduate student, known for his ability to impersonate Hussein, to "translate and dub spoofed Saddam Hussein speeches and tongue-in-cheek newscasts for broadcast throughout Iraq."

The student was paid $3,000 for working with the Rendon Group to record his impersonation of Saddam Hussein, which was then passed off in Iraq as actual recordings of the Iraqi dictator.

The article quotes the student as saying: "We did skits where Saddam would get mixed up in his own lies, or where Qusay would stumble over his own delusions of grandeur." The student also said he was never quite sure who was behind the disinformation campaign: "I never got a straight answer on whether the Iraqi resistance, the CIA or policy makers on the Hill were actually the ones calling the shots."

1. Thanks for the reminder. This is an administration that has admitted
to using propaganda as a tool on the "WOT"...

4. I always think of this from "Wag the Dog"
Conrad 'Connie' Brean: What's the thing people remember about the Gulf War? A bomb falling down a chimney. Let me tell you something: I was in the building where we filmed that with a 10-inch model made out of Legos.

Stanley Motss: Is that true?

Conrad 'Connie' Brean: Who the hell's to say?

2. OK then,
Who's responsible for the alleged Dubya broadcasts in the U.S. (more frequent
these days) in which someone portrays our pResident as a blithering idiot
megalomaniac? I'm actually getting tired of them, been going on for about 5 years.

5. Something I wrote in March 2001
From Buzzflash

NEWS FLASH!
IT WAS AN IMPOSTOR WHO ADDRESSED
CONGRESS ON TUESDAY NIGHT!

Bogus President Reads From Teleprompter
As Many Fat White Men Hit Hands Together

By Dwayne Eutsey

In a bizarre, nationally televised incident last night, a deluded man
claiming to be president broke into the US Capitol and read from
teleprompters for almost an hour.

A menacing group of fat white men with bad hairstyles and expensive suits
prevented Capitol Police officers from apprehending the man, who has been
identified as a failed Texas businessman and AWOL fighter pilot named George
W. Bush.

"It was like something from 'Planet of the Apes' in there," said one shaken
officer. "I mean, we tried at least 85 times to take this nut down. Whenever
we tried moving in on him, though, those thugs he brought along would jump
up and start hitting their hands together like a bunch of hopped up apes."

After reading the platitudinous speech aloud and smirking frequently, Bush
escaped into the night and remains at large. Authorities do not believe he
is armed, dangerous, or all that intelligent, but they do caution the public
that he is a deeply disturbed person.

"The man is completely deluded," said Ann Arkey, an FBI psychologist working
on the case. "For some reason, he actually believes that he is the
president. Apparently, he has even convinced a fanatical minority of equally
deranged individuals that he's the national leader, which helped him launch
an attack on a foreign country recently."

National reaction to the strange incident has been mixed. The
corporate-owned media have taken the hoax seriously. Indeed, most "news"
organizations are now promoting the weird economic theories mouthed by Bush
last night, causing consumer confidence and world stock markets to plunge in
a desparate kamikaze dive toward oblivion.

Viewer response has ranged from bafflement to boredom. According to
overnight polls, however, many Americans were unaware of the occurance,
opting instead to watch the episode of "The Facts of Life" on Nick-at-Nite
in which the girls take a cruise through downtown Peekskill on a Saturday
night with the hopes of finding Mr. Right.

A spokesperson for the legitimate president of the United States, Albert
Gore, expressed the president's concern over the peculiar event last night.
According to the spokesperson, President Gore has asked for congressional
investigations into the matter.

6. Ha!
Mark Twain would be proud, maybe this thread should be kicked for comic
relief though also has the original serious point. I'd rather laugh than
cry about these varmints. I think it's our duty to do both.

7. Check out this link about humor and the Holocaust
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 01:04 PM by deutsey
No, I'm NOT saying we're in the same situation as people in 1930's-'40s Germany were, just pointing out how humor contributed to resistance and solidarity at that dark time.
