Breaking >>> The Washingtonian has seen five photos of Bush with Abramoff

Bush and Abramoff—Say Cheese?
White House press secretary Scott McClellan admits that the White House has been on a search mission for any photos showing President Bush with toxic lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is cooperating with the Justice Department on its investigation of a wide-ranging lobbying scandal.

At a press conference, McClellan said if there were pictures, which officials hadn’t found, they might have been taken at a Christmas-party line, where the President poses with hundreds of people. “The President does not know him, nor does the President recall ever meeting him,” McClellan said.

The comment about searching raised images in the press room of a “White House plumbers” operation looking for incriminating photos.

If the White House can’t find the photos, prosecutors already know where to look. The Washingtonian has seen five photos of the President with Abramoff or his family. One photo shows the President and Abramoff shaking hands at a meeting in the Old Executive Office Building, where a bearded-Abramoff introduced Bush to several of the lobbyist’s native-American clients.

...

Sources say the photographs are being kept safe. Abramoff would tell prosecutors, if asked, that not only did he know the President, but the President knew the names of Abramoff’s children and asked about them during their meetings. At one such photo session, Bush discussed the fact that both he and Abramoff were fathers of twins.

64. What's the point of the post?
The point is reiterating what part of the original poster's message that gives one a big smile.

Hang around DU for a while, and then you'll understand.

57. It means Bush will be implicated
I'm not sure whether he will be in the context of the criminal investigation or not, but at least in the mind of the public he will probably soon be implicated in this scandal. The Bush White House has been telling anyone who would listen that Bush does not know Abramoff, so proof to the contrary would make it obvious that they were lying and have something to hide. Had the White House not denied that Bush knew him at all this wouldn't be so bad, but they really dug themselves into a hole with this one.

82. Yeah, frustrating as hell, but easy to explain.
The 35-40% who think Dubya hung the moon are those who only get their news from Fox, who are told how to think by Rush, and who are told how to vote by their pastors. They are programmed by the same to dismiss any contrary viewpoint as lies and deceipt from those they are told to fear. The media could discover a video tape showing Dubya killing puppies and kittens, raping his daughters, and snorting cocaine with Bin Laden during a satan-worshipping ritual, but they would still adore him. Because most would never actually see said video tape, and those who did or only heard of it second-hand would quickly dismiss it and blame the unpatriotic freedom-haters who made the whole thing up.

53. Read this: Chairman Poncho of the Coushattas visited Bush/WH '01
snip...

Abramoff’s White House guests were the chiefs of two of the six casino-rich Indian tribes he and his partner Mike Scanlon ultimately billed $82 million for services tribal leaders now claim were never performed or were improperly performed. Together the six tribes would make $10 million in political contributions, at Abramoff’s direction, almost all of it to Republican campaigns of his choosing. On May 9, 2001, when he ushered the two tribal chiefs into the White House to meet the President, The Washington Post story that would end his lobbying career and begin two Senate Committee investigations was three years away. (When the Post story broke in February 2004, however, Abramoff and Scanlon, a former Tom DeLay press aide, were already targets of a U.S. Attorney’s investigation in Washington.)

Abramoff brought the Coushatta and Choctaw chiefs to Washington at the request of Grover Norquist. Norquist is founder and director of Americans for Tax Reform, the advocacy group committed to slashing taxes until the federal government is so small you “can drown it in the bathtub.” Norquist started ATR in 1985. His power increased exponentially in 1994, when Republicans took control of the House of Representatives and he collaborated with then-Majority Whip Tom DeLay to launch the “K Street Project”—a coordinated campaign to compel lobbyists to contribute only to Republican candidates and ultimately to hire only Republicans. Like Abramoff and Rove, Norquist considered George Bush’s victory over Al Gore the culmination of a project the three Washington insiders started 30 years ago as national leaders of the College Republicans.

snip...

Since we first reported the White House ATR fundraiser and the $1 million contribution to the Capital Athletic Foundation (see “K Street Croupiers,” November 19, 2004), the Coushattas, speaking through Austin attorneys at Hance, Scarborough, Wright, Ginsburg & Brusilow, and through Louisiana political consultant Roy Fletcher, have vociferously denied that tribal Chairman Poncho visited the White House after contributing $25,000 to ATR. They also denied the $1 million contribution to Abramoff’s foundation. Recently the story has changed. Or at least the version told by the majority that controls the council has begun to change. Two minority members of the five-seat council have pointed to the pay-to-play meeting with President Bush and the $1 million contribution to Abramoff as examples of the council’s financial mismanagement. One of the two members of the minority faction, David Sickey, has regularly made himself available to the press. Normally, press inquiries to the council majority are answered by Hance Scarborough, by Roy Fletcher, or occasionally by sources close to the council majority.

According to a source close to the tribal majority, Chairman Poncho recently “revisited that issue” of his visit to the White House. He had previously denied it because he thought he was responding to press inquiries that implied he had a one-on-one meeting with Bush. He now recalls that he in fact did go to the White House on May 9, 2001. Tribal attorney Kathryn Fowler Van Hoof went with him, although she did not get into the meeting with the President. That meeting lasted for about 15 minutes and was not a one-on-one meeting. At the meeting, Bush made some general comments about Indian policy but did not discuss Indian gaming. Abramoff was at the meeting—for which he charged the Coushatta Tribe $25,000. The change in Poncho’s position is odd in light of the fact that he and his spokespersons have maintained for more than a year that he did not meet with President Bush in May 2001.

59. So what?
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 05:31 PM by Broken Acorn
Who cares if there are pictures of the chimp with Jack-off. Can a picture of someone convict him or lead to impeachment? I doubt it.

If the Downing Street Minutes can't bring this asshat to justice I doubt a couple of snapshots will. I can think of a million ways these criminals/GOP will spin the photos.

67. Impeachment, no, but enough to drag the GOP even lower
Remember, a photo (or 5) is much more powerful to the 'Murkan public than those confusing furrin documents.

Shrub's handlers know well the power of images.

63. Hurry and make many copies.
Give the originals to Bin Laden. They'll never look for em there. Also make many copies to give to our assault team members for the Sunday talk shows.

Bush must feel like Custer did when he said, "Hey them's injuns out there."

68. I think it would be very unwise to publicise them,
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 07:10 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
rather than keep them for appropriate judicial purposes. You'd have the neocons photo-shopping them by the hundreds and publicising them on the Net and on the media, thereby muddying the water and descrediting the originals.

69. this sounds pretty credible ... and great!
If Abramoff has these photos, its very likely that the President does as well. You don't usually bring a camera with you to a meeting with the Pres, rather the WH photog takes the pics. Its their way of controlling the photos (no pics of the President scratching his balls, etc). If these pictures come out and its shown that they were taken by the WH, then Scottie is going be caught in yet another lie.

74. Scottie wouldn't know reality if it bit him.
He long ago surpassed Ron whats-his-name, Nixon's press goon, in the BS department. Witout cable TV, what's the best way to keep up with WH press briefing transcripts? Scottie is entertaining in his deft twists of language and artful shoveling of drivel.

What was I thinking! :banghead:

It's about taking our Constitutional right of "Freedom of Speech," AND "Spying" on US citizens.

85. I don't think the Washontonian have them.
The article says it has seen the photos. They didn't come out and say they are in possession except for some sources. Maybe they are trying to get whomever have them to print them.

Who cares if there are photos or not.....all you need to know about JackOff it that he was a member of the Bush transition team....he was one of 48 people on the team. Are we supposed to believe that Bush appointed someone to his transition team that he didnt know?

86. Good point!
It doesn't matter. Republican Lobbyist Jack Abramoff was on Bush's transition team and he raised thousands of dollars for him and contributed thousands of dollars to the republican party.
