My Girlfriends dream last night...
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 02:47 PM by Javaman
Each night as with most couples we chat before we actually hit the sack. Going over the days events, planning for the next day, talking a bit about family and lastly a few comments about politics...

The last comment I point to, because just before we hit the sack last night, I mentioned how abu gonzalez waved his little paper to the press "proving" how wire tapping the public was legal (god, that statement is so weird). Anyway we hit the sack.

Just a few minutes ago, she called me. She had the day off today and was able to sleep late.
She had had this dream last night the the U.S. was under German control. It was a very strictly controlled government, very regulated, and controlled every individuals life. Passes, ID cards and other forms of ID were needed to do everything.
But the last comment was particularly telling and very scary. She stated that it was so bad that every U.S. citizen required a ID card to even use the Phones...

It kind of creeped me out. Needless to say my girlfriend has stated she doesn't want to talk politics before we go to bed anymore.

Any thoughts on this?

Could be her subconscious dreaming out problems in her head. Sounds like a deep fear she has. I think we all have it (well all of us aware).

A nightmare? Or the rapidly approaching reality?

11. Actually, apart from me pointing her to DU and
giving her various articles to read, she's not what I would call a news junky like I am, but she does keep informed and listens to AAR from time to time.

6. I can see that. Phone use is charge to the individual, requires a
card swipe so the phone company knows who to charge for the call. Any call on your home phone is, of course, charged to you, and cannot use any other phone without the swipe card. Therefore, the phone co. knows every call you make.

No at all technologically infeasible.

9. 1984 is most definitely technologically feasible today
Her dream is as close to reality as it is. Everything that requires electronic transactions can and will be recorded if not by the government than by some corporation that owns the equipment. There is no escaping that short of living off the grid entirely and making quite a few sacrifices as far as luxury and comfort go.

12. Read
Philip K. Dick's The Man In The High Castle. Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan control the US. In the book Dick posits they won WW II. A close reading of the text suggests Dick really believed this to be true, not literally but through the triumph of genocidal 'values'.

14. Don't need an ID for phone calls, just cell phones which are traceable
Eventually landlines will go the way of the LP record. And have you tried to find a pay phone lately?
