Something I've been wondering about...

Maybe this has been discussed on DU, but I am wondering if anyone has an explanation regarding this:

Supposedly, the 9/11 hijackers were devout, staunch Muslims. In fact, they were so committed to Islam that they were willing to die for their religion. These people lived and breathed the Muslim religion, which was the epicenter of their existence.

If these hijackers were such devout Muslims--why were they drinking, smoking and trolling for hookers the night before the hijacking? This was widely reported in the media after 9/11.

Are we actually supposed to believe that dutiful, extremely religious Muslims--who knew their 'day of judgment' was in less than 24 hours--would engage in Americanized, frat-boy debauchery that would
surely buy them a one-way ticket into Muslim hell.

A bit out of character for the archetype, don't you think?
