~ New Talking Point to Counter Rove ~ |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 05:53 PM by rpgamerd00d
"The Republicans are still stuck in pre-9/11 thinking. Thinking of this as a conventional war shows us that. Conventional wars are won on a battlefield against organized troops of a foreign state. That is not what we are facing in today's world - this is not a conventional war. We need to think in totally new ways to handle this kind of threat. The Democratic Party is the party of Progessive thinkers, the Republicans a party of out-of-date ideas. Sending our troops into a foreign country to entrench and wait for terrorists to attack just so we can try to kill them is NOT the way we will defeat Terrorism in this world. We need an entirely new kind of organization to find and route out terrorists, and the Democrats are the ones that will be responsible to create this new organization. It will have the worlds best intelligence, be extremly agile, and be seriously deadly."

Thinking outside the box a little bit. The only problem I see with it is that the sheeple understand war and it feeds into their primal urge for a personified enemy to take revenge on. They like to see things blown up. Countering that need effectively would be a hurtle.
The Repugs can talk tough and have the body count to back it up. Your way requires thought and sophistication--which may be the kiss of death in America.

"Sending our troops into a foreign country to entrench and wait for terrorists to attack just so we can try to kill them is NOT the way we will defeat Terrorism in this world."

4. What a joke (repug thinking) |

Haven't we been saying this since 9/11, and even before?
Their tactic might work if they invade and occupy a country then use the military to bait terrorists in the occupied nation (what we are doing), who then kill themselves in suicide bomb runs against the invaders. But even this has failed as most of the attacks any more are directed at the new Iraqi government and their police forces.
What they are doing only feeds the anger that drives the ideals of the terrorists and, as everyone has said since the dawn of the terrorist age (and it wasn't 9/11), YOU CANNOT FIGHT AN IDEA WITH THE MILITARY!
The only way one can fight an idea is with better idea, or by changing the policies and behaviors that are fueling the idea. Unfortunately the dumba**es in our government see this as "cut and run" or "aiding and abedding". Maybe if we pull our heads out of our collective asses and realize that we have brought all of this on ourselves we can bring peace.
Victory is an illusion in this war, the only victory is the cessation of the terrorist threat against our nation. If it takes some drastic policy revisions, isolationist attitudes, and maybe the bankrupting of the oil industry then so be it. The one thing it does not take is more american troops and/or american weapons in the middle east. All that does is fuel the fire, and I'm tired of getting burned.
