Would a terror attack before Nov. Help or Hurt bush & his masters? |
|
God forbid, or cheney permitting, we never know when or if we'll be attacked before the 06 or 08 elections, would it play favorably for the neo cons? Nine eleven was an orgasmic and seminal event for them, they'd be nothing and nowhere without it, it gave them every wet dream they ever dreamed.
Some say that no, another terror attack from the Islamozombies would prove that we are NOT safer with Saddam in a cell, and we are not safer from Osama or anyone who looks like him.
It worked so well five years ago, if it happened again it might just help them again, think about it. We are attacked, we are full of vengeance and rage, and we attack those who the neo cons claim attacked us, if not al qaeda, some other shadowy swarthy group.
Growing more cynical by the moment, I suspect that it would re-invigorate bush's shitcanned career again, and the patriotic strains of "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood will be wafting across the airways again, and more people will die by the thousands in a nation that probably had nothing to do with it.

1. I would think that it would hurt Bush and his buddies. It would prove |
|
once and for all that the country is not safe with the Rethugs at the helm.
God, I hope they don't try to pull this shit again.

Repubs would immediately work to terrify the public and to convince them that Dems can't be trusted to handle Our National Defense. Only Republicans, with their clear moral foundation and sense of higher duty have the courage and conviction to see us through these dangerous times.
Obviously it's bullshit, but Bush would personally smear his face with the blood of the fallen if it would give him a little more wiggle room to enact his masters' agenda. And if the attack happened close enough to election day, Repubs would take steps to scare Democratic voters away from the polls (not to mention their usual raft of hot-button issues calculated to bring out the base).
And all of this assumes that they wouldn't simply cancel the elections by Executive Order.

3. The white house could be a smoldering pile and they will still find |

a way to spin it as a win for us.
They are pigs, first and foremost.

5. It would depend on how DEMOCRATS let them frame the PR. |
|
I think we should be being pre-emptive on this issue.
We should be saying, "We WILL be attacked again, because B*sh has done nothing to improve REAL security", so when and if it happens, the blame will fall where it belongs.

8. I agree 100%. DEMS NEED TO GET OUT IN FRONT ON THIS ONE. |
|
I truly believe they will do anything to maintain their power. If we are attacked again it's because they are not doing their job. Keep asking, Do you believe the guys that brought you Katrina are prepared for another disaster? Do you really believe that taking away "gel" on planes makes you safer? or would you prefer that our money be spent on more translators and screening cargo?

6. Good question. On the one hand, they claim to have made the world |
|
a safer place. A terror attack would just be more evidence that they have been fucking up all over the world. This I think, would be a rational observers view.
On the other hand, it would give them the opportunity to dress up like soldiers and prance around in front of the cameras to recycle the 9/11 sound bites. This would stir up the fiery angry base.
Imagine if they staged an attack on a Xtian Fundy icon somewhere! Wow - they could stir up all kinds of fundy rage!
Aside- Is it sound bites or sound bytes? Hmmm. It is the digital age you know. All images and audio are now bytes.

7. Another attack on American soil would be proof positive that once |
|
again, the Bush Administration has dropped the ball. How many times are Americans going to give them a pass? They dropped the ball on 9/11. Then again with the intelligence prior to invading Iraq. Then again with Hurricane Katrina.
I think people have had it with fear, death, and destruction. Another attack would just show that we're as vulnerable today as we were prior to 9/11, and the Bush Administration has had all the intervening years to make changes to protect us, and once again, failed at the task at hand.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Some of us get it even when the most powerful man in the nation doesn't.

In short, I couldn't give you an answer without questioning my own position. At any rate, it would be very bad news.

11. If it happens, we know who's behind it |
|
whether it will or not, I don't know, but if it occurs surely it would occur with their blessing so they must at least think it would help them.

12. Any interest in a bet? I'll wager that, depending on the poll numbers |
|
in October we will;
a.) Be attacked by "terrorists" b.) Receive another OBL threat, or if their numbers are even worse, c.) Kill OBL
Any takers?

13. The Polarization Would Become Complete |
|
Because the folks that would rally to the Administration in the event of another attack would be his forever after and the ones that were repulsed by another great failure by the Administration could never again trust it at all. So the polarization would increase even beyond the current absurd level. Possibly enough for violence to break out in the cities, in my estimation.

14. It would help ... no doubt ... and here's why |
|
Bush declares martial law ... elections suspended ... constitution suspended ... Bush's statement of "This would be a lot easier if it were a dictatorship ... and I was the dictator." comes full ...
Good enough for you?

17. I think the citzenry would storm |
|
the White House and halls of Congress with torches and pitchforks. The only way the repugs could escape it would be if they thawed out Osama's corpse and held it out as proof they were doing something.

18. It would definitely help Bush |
|
Americans always rally around their leaders in times of crisis. Plus the Congressional leaders would want to put on a unified face to the world. Let's pray for no October surprise.
That said, I do agree with dicksteele about criticizing Bush's homeland security policies pre-emptively. We should be screaming at the top of our lungs that he should be guarding our gates here instead of fighting a useless war on the other side of the world which does nothing but divert our attention and deplete our resources.
