Poll question: Bigger Bush Administration Failure: Katrina or 9/11? |
|
One he sleazily tries to bypass and ignore, the other he sleazily acts as if it were something to wrap like a shawl around himself. Why? He should be hiding from BOTH these anniversaries. Both of these events would have been very different with a real president in charge. In fact, without Bush:
(1) FEMA would have still been what it was under Bill Clinton and James Lee Witt. (2) 9/11 probably wouldn't have even happened with someone else on watch.
So, the only thing really left to debate is just which of these two monumental failures by this administration was the bigger letdown of the American People...Katrina or 9/11.

1. Allowing 9/11 to happen was a calculated plan to enable the war effort |
|
They needed an enabler to drive the American psyche to support the illegal war.

4. So 9/11, it's aftermath & the Iraq war are a success. |
|
Cutting off the oil, getting us involved militarily in the ME and the resulting worldwide chaos was part of their plan all along.
Katrina was a failure.

7. A success for the bu$h regime! |
|
It was as success in the fact that it became their enabler.
It was a huge fuck up and history will eventually correct any propaganda out there now. But never the less, it allowed the bu$h regime to enrage the nation just as they wanted and enact the Patriot Act and Homeland Security all to disable the American people and civil liberties.
It all depends on how you look at success.
I think Katrina was a failure to the bu$h regime because it is the turning point where America started to awaken from the 9/11 stupor.
I hope that comes across correctly.

2. Katrina will bite them on the ass, but 9/11's been spun pretty well. |
|
Both were allowed to happen, if not by design then by incompetence, and both continue to ruin lives and pull a body count. However, the fact that they are trying to bury Katrina while bandying about 9/11 like a badge speaks volumes about which is potentially more damaging.

3. They weren't failure's... With 9/11 they have taken more rights |
|
away from the people (expecially with homeland security). With Katrina, they let the situation digress until everyone was in favor of martial law. It was a practise run to see how American's would react to military personel in our streets.

5. Katrina Wasn't A Failure |
|
what we saw in the aftermath of this storm is exactly what should/will/does happen when you make government small enough to drown in a bathtub (pardon the expression).
It was the manifestation or result of small government, rugged individualism, personal responsibility philosophy.

6. They are both just events on the continuum of failure that began |
|
as soon as he took the oath of office. Neither is a bigger failure in the continuous failure that has been this presidency.

So the first was unavoidable (though the aftermath is another matter) whereas the second was not.

but there was a week's warning for the hurricane. Global news channels followed it as it made its way to NOLA.
Same sh*t as on 9/11. Everyone else in the world except him watched it unfold on TV. He wasn't interested.

11. The war is another matter. THAT will go down as his WORST single failure |
|

...in my opinion. Going to war in Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 (even he admitted it the other day).
I was careful to zero in on the aftermath of Katrina rather than blame him for the weather ("Not responding after Hurricane Katrina").

12. Failures by design... |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 11:41 AM by marmar
- In one's aftermath, the message is submit to the government because we've got to protect you. - In the other's aftermath, the message is that big government can't protect you so we need to dismantle it. 1+1=Fascism

13. 9-11 and its cover-up has been a great sucess for them. It was the |
|
most sucessful act they pulled off yet. Katrina was purposeful as well, because the point was to get rid of FEMA and get the State Guard under President's control that is trying to become a reality.
NONE of these things were "failures". They were deliberate actions with deliberate desired consequences.

14. They are totally responsible for pansy responce to a serious tragedy |
|
in New Orleans. No - they didn't break the Levees. But they were incapable, or left kids or personality disordered young adults in charge of the WH, and these people failed to empathize or respond in as adult human beings. Doesn't get more horrible than that.
