I'm late with this but, Spike hit a damn homerun w/When the Levees Broke! |
|
Just finished watching it 4 hours straight on TiVO, damn this thing was moving. I'm watching the end with all of the people saying their names and I'm just blown away. It really did not learn anything new but it was great story telling. When you look at the diversity of stories that Spike used you just really appreciate the magnitude of this disaster. This is a must see for everyone. Choked up a hell of a lot.

1. Now you see why it was necessary for Rocky's photo-op with Bush |
|
I, too, watched "When the Levees Broke" and I agree that it is a powerful and moving story.
I believe it was too powerful for the Bush administration. That's why it was so necessary for the whole "Rocky Visits D.C." photo-op bullshit stunt. Bush's handlers were hoping that the news of his "adventure" would counter the negative feelings generated by Lee's documentary.
If every American sat down and watched about 4-5 progressive documentaries this weekend, he/her would be on the streets Monday.

Most of the people that need to see it don't have HBO.

was so, pathetic an attempt. even today on CNN: "the Federal Government has done its job, funded billions to the reconstruction. it's the local government that has failed in NO.
right. Rove is in charge of its disbursement, Halliburton got the no bid contracts.
Back to Spike Lee - a national treasure. a work of love. PERFECT!

4. I'm Indebted To Spike Lee..... |
|
....for allowing me to see the footage of that brave soul saying---twice---"Fuck yourself, Mr. Cheney" to Vice President Deadeye. It didn't look like it registered with Cheney the first time, but the second time, it looked like someone had kicked him in the balls. Great stuff....

5. Spike Lee's work marks a high water mark in American documentary . . . |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 03:07 PM by OneBlueSky
filmmaking . . . by letting those affected tell their stories, Lee captures the true essence of what happened and brings to the film a certain power that other approaches probably wouldn't have . . .
this is Emmy material for sure, and should win a Pulitzer, imo . . .
