Tweety: Keith is smart to pick fight "UP" with O'LOOFAH
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 09:49 AM by UTUSN
So Tweety suspects that just about all of his viewers actually ARE liberals. Yip, we're masochists, all right. It's fun to read how he tries to be "smart": His ideal viewer would be an "assistant professor"----but in IOWA. He is so East-hidebound that he fantasizes about being popular out in the mysterious (to him) hinterland. Schmuck.

Chris Matthews' syndicated political talk show has its fifth anniversary next month. His MSNBC program Hardball may get more buzz, but The Chris Matthews Show, from NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution, is a force as well. During the week ended Aug. 13, Matthews averaged a 2.0 household rating. That trails Meet the Press (2.6) but is even with Face The Nation and bests This Week (1.6). ....

Who is your viewer?

I imagine our viewer is someone sitting on the West Side of New York with his O.J. and the Times. Or is it the assistant professor at the University of Iowa? The assistant professor would be my ideal audience. It wouldn't break my heart if they were all liberals, but they're not. People tell me Cheney watches it, which isn't by invitation. Just kidding. ....

What's your take on the Keith Olbermann-Bill O'Reilly feud?

Olbermann is very smart to pick this fight. You should always fight up. You pick a fight with someone higher up the system, and then they respond, and you are equals.

So who will you pick your fight with?

Dick Cheney. I'm going very high.

1. Almost seems like Matthews considers himself some kind of
hard-hitting journalist. Does he really think liberals are drawn to his show, or that guys like Cheney are repelled by it? Give me a break.

2. I'll believe that: "Dick Cheney. I'm going very high" when holsteins
lose their spots! If you think about that response in light of his thought on Olbermann, does this mean that Tweety and the gun touting veep may be equals someday?

3. Wrong, Tweets... you picked Dick as your friend a long time ago.

Maybe you regret that now, but I won't forget it.

4. Well, he's right about that much
You gotta remember with the Tweetster that he was brought up by Tip O'Neill, who was the ultimate inside-baseball, machine politician. He's not a liberal; neither was Tip. He's an insider, attuned to the concerns of insiders, which is basically to stay an insider. He has very little or no moral compass; he's impressed by power and those who wield it.

5. Tweety's a legend in his own mind.

He reminds me of nothing more strongly than a guy who's spent altogether too much time at political house parties, schmoozing and cruising. I've spent enough time with political junior-frog-small-pond types at 'insider' gatherings and campaign cruise-and-shmooze fundraisers to recognize the type. It's a kind of narcissism ... feeding on the glib one-liners, practiced smile, and power handshakes ... with 'analytics' that quickly attain their own reality and easily disconnecting from the workady realities of individual citizens. He's a natural staffer ... the kind that secretly sneer at the office-holder and pat themselves on the back for doing all the work.

6. We're going on 6 years
here and Tweets is going to pick a fight with Cheney. Uh huh, sure. I won't hold my breath. I suspect it will be more like some lover's quarrel than a knock down, drag out fight.

For someone who has done everything to enable this adminsitration I find it hard to believe there is any big fight ensuing.

7. If Tweety wants to "fight up," he should pick on Bugs Bunny.

9. If his interview with DeLay is any indication
of what his interview with Cheney would be like... Forget it, he kissed so much ass, he invested in chapstick stock.....
