Poll question: Travellers: Will you avoid air travel on 9/11 (5 year anniversary)? |
|
Or do you feel that that day will be just as "safe" as any other day? I am faced with this decision.

1. I'm faced with the same problem... |
|
and I think that it may be perfectly safe (no terrorist attacks), but the fear mongering and paranoia are going to be so extreme, that many flights will be delayed and diverted as brown-skinned travellers (such as myself) are removed from the airplanes by DHS officers. So, I'm planning my trip a few daze earlier.
Peace - :)

2. I'm avoiding flying because I'm disgusted with the new paranoia |
|
When they let me bring my damn contact lens solution and a bottle of water to keep from dehydrating, I'll consider flying again.

4. I think the answer is to arm every single passenger that day. |

What could possibly go wrong?

6. I'll fly again when the TSA AND Homeland Security get their shit togehter. |
|
I stopped flying after the recent new very-inconvenient-yet-highly-ineffective rules were put in place.

It's just too much of a pain in the backside to even think about flying.

7. I flew on the first anniversary (with my cats no less) |
|
I had no trouble getting the reservation I wanted (and cheap too).
The airports were empty, as were the planes.
They segregated the passengers to the front and rear of the coach cabin (all 16 of us).
And eerily enough, we overflew Manhattan at ~10 AM and had a moment of silence (and I could see the WTC site).
Everyone was glad to get off the plane at our final destination...(especially my fuzzballs)...

9. I'm flying to Thailand on 9/11. |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 04:48 PM by Atman
No shit. 17 1/2 hours, non-stop. The same flight creapo-Karr took home from Thailand.
I figure 9/11 is probably the safest day of all to fly. There'll probably be more Air Marshalls on my flight than paid passengers!

10. I think I'll actually be taking a long road trip on that day... |
|
A very small part of the decision to drive was to avoid flying - but only because of the incredible hassle it's become, not the date...

9/11 has nothing to do with my extreme fears of flying.

17. My son is flying that day on business. |
|
He's freaked out (only 24), but I told him not to worry. If I had a flight that day, I would just go about my business.

18. It was SAFE to fly on 9/11/01! |
|
Let's keep things in perspective...
There were 4500 planes in the air and we lost 4.
That's 4 more than we usually lose, but on the morning of 9/11/01 an air traveller still had a 99.91% chance of arriving at their destination safely.
