What I keep saying to righties

When righties tell me that Bush "did what he had to do" during the "time of war", I say this:

We're sunk as a republic if we start giving presidents dictatorial powers any time they invade a country, apply the word "war" to a problem (such as terrorism), or utter the words "national security."

That makes it sound like he was dealing with some sort of emergency--like WWIII breaking out from forces beyond his control--when everyone knows the ONLY reason it is a "time of war" is b/c this demented asshole just gratuitously invaded a sovereign nation for NO reason other than to increase his (and Cheney's) own PERSONAL wealth.

as a basis for asking a court for mercy.
